HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 10 - Water Line Project0 /Q MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER 4 MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 18, 2001 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF WATER LINE PROJECT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of a project to construct water lines in the Grapevine Lake Estates subdivision. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Water Permanent Capital Maintenance Fund account number 200-43360-534-0. BACKGROUND: The Grapevine Lake Estates subdivision is currently served by a private water well system. The system was constructed in the early 1960s when the subdivision formed in an unincorporated area of Tarrant County. The City of Grapevine annexed the subdivision in the 1970s; however, the residents continued to use the private water system, which has continued to operate since that time. Staff raised the issue of the construction of water lines in the Grapevine Lake Estates subdivision at a City Council meeting because of requests from residents in that area. Council agreed to offer a connection fee of $1,000.00 per single family unit to connect to the City System as long as 50% of the residents participated in the project. The residents then circulated a petition among all the private water system users. Over 50% of the residents have agreed to accept the City's offer and connect to the City system when the water lines are constructed. The project will include the design and engineering, bid solicitation and construction process. It is estimated at a cost of $250,000 and will take approximately seven months to complete. Staff recommends approval. September 12, 2001 (1:47PM)
