FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: AUGUST 19, 2008
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE AND
INSTALLATION OF TURF GRASS AT THE OAK GROVE
BALLFIELD COMPLEX
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of a contract with King Ranch Turf Grass for the
purchase and installation of turf grass for the ballfields at the Oak Grove Ballfield
Complex in the total amount of $245,000.00. The bids are attached for review.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are budgeted in 121-48850-312-07-000002 Council Quality of Life Fund/
Improvements other than Buildings in the amount of $245,000.
 BACKGROUND:
Bids were opened on August 8, 2008 with a total of three contractors submitting bids for
this project. Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid was advertised in
the Forf Worth Star Telegram on July 24, 2008 and July 31, 2008.
This bid was taken in conjunction with the renovation of the Oak Grove Ballfield
Complex. The renovation project was first approved by Council at the May 20, 2008
meeting. At that meeting, Council approved removal of the installation of the turF grass
from the original bid through Change Order #1. This item was removed in order to allow
staff to solicit additional competitive quotations in an effort to reduce costs on the
project. In initial discussions with the Council, staff estimated the total cost for the sod
and installation at $275,000. Therefore, the total cost savings for the sod, including
installation, is $30,000.
