MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MAY 6, 2008
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF A 25KW GENERATOR
AND TRANSFER SWITCH FOR FIRE STATION 3
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the purchase of a 25KW Generator and Transfer
Switch from Has-Tech Solutions, Inc. in the total amount of $23,760.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds were budgeted and approved by Council to be purchased in FY 2008 from
account 174-74004-007-000 Street Maintenance/Capital Replacement/Fire Station
Repairs and Maintenance in the amount of 32,500.
BACKGROUND:
In accordance with purchasing policy, Staff solicited written quotations for this purchase.
House Bill 3506 raised the format bid limit requirement from $25,000 to $50,000.
Effective September 1, 2007, formal bids and advertisements are not required for
purchases under $50,000.
This purchase is for a 25KW Generator and Transfer Switch for Fire Station 3. Over the
past couple of years, Staff has worked toward having emergency generators installed at
all Fire Stations throughout the City. Staff replaced the generator at Fire Station 1 and
relocated the existing generator to Fire Station 2. After that project was completed, Fire
Station 3 was left as the only Fire Station without an emergency generator.
In FY 2008, Staff budgeted for the purchase and installation of a new emergency
generator at Fire Station 3. The generator will provide power to the overhead doors,
tighting, emergency radios and other equipment necessary for Fire Department
operations in the event of loss of power to the Fire Station.
Staff solicited quotations from nine vendors with three vendors responding. The lowest
quotation received was from Has-Tech Solutions, Inc. Facility Services staff met with this
vendor to insure they could meet the specification requirements, and staff recommends
Has-Tech Solutions, Inc. for the project. A copy of the bid tabulation is attached for
review.
