SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF LIFT BAG KIT USING URBAN AREA SECURITY
INITIATIVE (UASI) GRANT FUNDS
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of a lift bag kit for the
Technical Rescue Team.
FUNDING SOURCE: Urban Area Security Initiative Grant - The total cost of the kit is
$28,782.00, which will be fully funded through the Urban Area Security
Initiative (UASI) Grant. No matching funds are required from the city.
BACKGROUND: Each year, the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington Urban Area allocates funds to
Tarrant County to assist local jurisdictions in preventing, responding to,
and recovering from terrorist incidents. The Northeast Fire Department
Association (NEFDA) typically receives a portion of these funds to support
its mission.
This year, the Grapevine Fire Department, in collaboration with NEFDA,
proposes to use these funds to purchase a Lift Bag Kit for the
department's Technical Rescue Team. The kit will support various search
and rescue operations, including responses to terrorist incidents in
member jurisdictions.
The project will be fully funded by the Urban Area Security Initiative
(UASI) Grant, with no cost match required from Grapevine or NEFDA
member jurisdictions. The funds have already been approved by the
Office of the Governor. The Emergency Management Coordinator will
oversee grant management and ensure compliance with all applicable
local, state, and federal regulations.
