MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: APRIL 1, 2008
SUBJECT: CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE DONATION OF A
LIGHTNING PREDICTION SYSTEM AND MUSCO CONTROL
LINK SYSTEM AND SOCCER GOALS FROM THE
GRAPEVINE/SOUTHLAKE SOCCER ASSOCIATION FOR
MEADOWMERE PARK
RECOMMENDATION:
The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board and staff recommend the City Council approve
the donation of a lightning prediction and warning system and a Musco Control Link
system and soccer goals for the soccer fields at Meadowmere Park from the
Grapevine/Southlake Soccer Association.
BACKGROUND:
Officials from the Grapevine/Southlake Soccer Association approached staff several
months ago with a request to install a lightning prediction system, a Musco Control Link
system and soccer goals for the soccer fields at Meadowmere Park. (The lightning
prediction system warns park users that lightning is predicted in the area and
appropriate shelter should be sought.) The Musco Control Link system will control the
lighting systems at the soccer complex. The lightning prediction system has been
installed and the Musco Control Link system will be installed within the next finro weeks.
The cost of the lightning prediction system was $10,000 and the cost of the Musco
Control Link system was $7,000. The cost of the soccer goals was $3,500. Again, all
the amenities were paid for by the Grapevine/Southlake Soccer Association.
The donations were approved unanimously at the March 20th Parks & Recreation
Advisory Board meeting.
