MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: FEBRUARY 5, 2013
SUBJECT: ENGINEERING DESIGN SEVICES CONTRACT—WWTP
FILTER REPLACEMENT PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider approving an Engineering Design Services Contract with CDM-Smith
in an amount of $156,825 for the Waste Water Treatment Plant Filter Replacement
Project, authorize staff to execute said contract, and take any necessary action.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 200-48945-534-8-00028 in the amount of $156,825 and
programmed in t ity Funds— Capital Projects.
BACKGROUND:
The Travelling Bridge Sand Filters in both Trains 2 and 3 have exceeded their useful lives
and are in need of complete replacement to continue to meet our effluent permit limits. The
engineering services provided under this contract will address the design of replacement
filters utilizing much newer technology which will serve us for many years to come.
The cost to repair or retrofit the existing filters with its outdated technology is in the same
range as the cost for the newer technology. This new technology will provide the City with
improved effluent results and will provide us the ability to meet future more restrictive
permit requirements.
Staff recommends approval.
