SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF A 3,000 LB LOAD
CAPACITY FORKLIFT FOR THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT
PLANT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the purchase of a 3,000 Ib. Load Capacity Forklift
from Shoppas Material Handling in the total amount of $15,661.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this service are budgeted in account 325-48860-531-08 Capital
EquipmenUMachinery and Equipment/Wastewater Treatment in the amount of$35,000.
BACKGROUND:
In accordance with purchasing policy, Staff solicited written quotations for this purchase.
House Bill 3506 raised the formal bid limit requirement from $25,000 to $50,000.
Effective September 1, 2007, formal bids and advertisements are not required for
purchases under $50,000.
This purchase is for a 2008 model 3,000 Ib. Load Capacity Forklift for the Wastewater
Treatment Plant. This unit will replace a 1985 model that is 21 years old and has 2,000
hours, and has exceeded the original cost in maintenance upkeep. The replacement unit
meets the City's replacement criteria in life cycle cost and time in service. The Forklift
was approved to be purchased by Council during the budget process for this fiscal year.
Attached is the Fleet Replacement Criteria Worksheet for review.
Request for quotations were sent to six vendors with four vendors responding. The
lowest bid received was from Shoppas Material Handling. The specifications for the
forklift listed a number of requirements and all responding vendors met all of the
minimum requirements. A copy of the bid tabulation is attached for review.
Staff recommends award of a purchase order to Shoppas Material Handling for a total
amount of $15,661.
