MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MAY 19, 2009
SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF GOLF CARTS
FOR THE MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider awarding a contract to E-Z-Go, Division of Textron, Inc. for the
purchase of 97 Golf Carts in the total amount of$179,456. A copy of the bid tabulation is
attached for review.
FUNDING
Funds are available in 325-42281-340-09-09D1 Capital Equipment Machinery Purchase
Fund/Apparatus and Tools/Golf Course.
BACKGROUND:
Invitations to bid were issued at the request of the Municipal Golf Course and bid
documents were issued in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter A, Section 252.041. The bid advertisements posted in the Fort Worth Star
Telegram on April 16, 2009 and April 23, 2009. Staff issued bid documents to three
vendors. Two vendors submitted offers. A tabulation of the bids is attached for review.
This request is for the purchase of 97 Golf Carts to replace the current fleet at the
Municipal Golf Course.
The Municipal Golf Course received the current golf cart fleet in May 2006. These carts
are now three years old. As a part of the purchase agreement the City received a three
year parts and labor warranty on major repairs with staff performing daily maintenance.
The warranty has now expired and the expected repair expenses to keep the present
fleet operational would not be economically viable. As a part of this year's purchase, the
City will receive a three year parts and labor warranty of major repairs for the new fleet
and Staff will continue to do daily maintenance. Due to the high level of usage that the
carts receive, there is a three year replacement criteria for golf carts. Council approved
the replacement of the carts during the budget process for this fiscal year.
