Chris Smith, Director OfParks & Recreation CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met February 20, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at The Vine Arts & Events Center located at 225 W Worth in Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to-wit: MEMBERS ABSENT: Christian Ross Roy Robertson Kerr! Stephens Robyn Readicker Lavon Light Kelly McDowell Rob Fenton Amond Cowans Renee Townsend LIAISONS Paul Slechta— City Council Kathy Spradley—GCISD Board Liaison Avery Gaudett—GHS Student Liaison Audrey Torres— CHHS Student Liaison (Absent) Constituting a quorum with the following members of City staff: Chris Smith, Director Trent Kelley, Deputy Director Jennifer Kashner, Recreation Manager Megan Holladay, Administrative Coordinator Assistant Christian Ross called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. A moment of silence was observed followed by the invocation led by Christian. Approval of Minutes A motion was made to approve the January 16, 2025 meeting minutes. Motion: Fenton Second: Readicker Ayes: Ross, Robertson, Stephens, Readicker, Light, Fenton, McDowell, Cowans, Townsend Nays: None Absent: None Approved: 9-0 Citizen Comments None New Business The following Adopt-An-Area new agreements were reviewed: Grapevine AMBUCS. A motion was made to approve the new Grapevine AMBUCS Adopt-An-Area. Motion: Stephens Second: Light Ayes: Ross, Robertson, Stephens, Readicker, Light, Fenton, McDowell, Cowans, Townsend Nays: None Absent: None Approved: 9-0 1 The following Adopt-An-Area renewal agreements were reviewed: Western Oaks III Homeowners Association, The Cochran Family, Friends of Oak Grove Park, NE Neighborhood Association, Amy Beyer Realtor. A motion was made to approve the renewed Western Oaks III Homeowners Association Adopt-An-Area. Motion: Robertson Second: Cowans Ayes: Ross, Robertson, Stephens, Readicker, Light, Fenton, McDowell, Cowans, Townsend Nays: None Absent: None Approved: 9-0 Presentation Chris Smith thanked Lara Brown for her service and her time with PARD. Lara thanked the board. Chris Smith and Trent Kelley presented the Phase II Update — The REC Performance Utilization as a walk-through presentation that will be presented to Grapevine City Council on March 4, 2025. GCISD Student Liaison Update Avery Gaudett, student liaison from Grapevine High School shared the following highlights. Spring signing day took place last week and GHS had 9 athletes sign. Swim and dive left for state on Thursday, February 20. The wrestling team had 4 people compete at State. Boys and girls soccer are about half way through there season and they both had a big win against Colleyville on Tuesday February 18. Boys and girls basketball wrapped up their season and the girls team made it to playoffs this year. Baseball and softball are just now starting up for the season. The GHS Cheer team just collected their 14th and 15th NCA title. The Fillies drill team will head to the MA dance competition the weekend at Birdville; and two weeks ago they competed at regionals and won 1st place overall in all 5 of their team competition routines. Mr Mustang competition was this past Monday and Kale Tompson, Mayor Tate's grandson was the winner. No update from CHHS. GCISD Board Liaison Kathy Spradley, GCISD Board Liaison shared the following highlights. 5 trustees and Dr. Schnautz spent Tuesday, February 18 with legislators in Austin discussing school funding. There is an upcoming school board election this year and Kathy will run unopposed. Grapevine City Council made a proclamation declaring February "CTE Month" in Grapevine. The annual PTA Founders Day breakfast was Thursday, February 20. Grapevine PD and Timberline SRO Pat O'Neal was given the prestigious PTA Friend of Children Award. CHHS boys basketball will play in a round 2 playoff game Friday, February 21 vs Arlington Seguin. City Council Paul Slechta reported that at the most recent City Council meeting, an agreement was approved for a new hotel to be built on Dallas Rd. They have plans to break ground this year, with hopes of completing the project by 2026. City Council elections will take place this year. Darlene Freed will not be running for reelection. Leon Leal will be running unopposed. Parks and Recreation Updates Chris Smith reported that the submissions should be received soon regarding the RFQ for the Master Plan. Additional areas in Settlers Park are undergoing analysis. The foundation for the building at Meadowmere has been poured and the targeted completion date for the building is the start of Summer.
