RECOMMENDATION:
Presentation of the International Association of Chief of Police (IACP) CISCO Systems
Community Policing Award to the Grapevine Police Department. Grand Prairie Police
Chief, Steve Dye,who serves on the IACP Community Policing Committee, will present the
award.
BACKGROUND:
Each year since 1998 the IACP have recognized the best community policing practices of
agencies around the world by bestowing upon them the Community Policing Award from
IACP and CISCO Systems. Entries are awarded in five population categories and are
judged for featuring innovative ideas utilizing the power of community policing, through
collaboration and partnerships, to make local, national, and global communities safer from
crime and terrorism.
Since the award's inception, over 64 agency winners and 120 agency finalists from all over
the world have been recognized for their commitment to community policing and
innovation.
This year, in the category for agencies serving a population of 20,000 to 50,000,the entries
were very competitive. As a result, the committee was unable to identify a sole winner from
the large number of entries. Instead, the Grapevine Police Department and three other
agencies identified as finalists shared this prestigious award.
