Board Meeting Minutes
Monday, January 21, 2013
Attendees: Janice Cook, Susan Peabody, Bruce Rider, Fred Sheffler, Jason Henderson, and Chris Coy, City
Council Liaison, and Janis Roberson, Library Director. (Lynda Brown and Debbie Venable were absent.)
I. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M.
II. There were no citizen comments.
III. The October 15, 2022 meeting minutes were approved.
IV. New Business
A. 90th Anniversary Celebration: The Friends of the Grapevine Library are funding the kickoff
celebration, scheduled for Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2:30PM-5:30PM. Many fun events are planned
at the library for that afternoon, plus a very special designation for that day. Other events (also
funded by the Friends) are scheduled to occur during the year to continue the celebration. An extra -
special Summer Reading Program is on tap and will start in June.
B. Discussion of the Retirement of State Librarian: Peggy Rudd announced her retirement recently.
Ed Seidenburg is serving as Acting State Librarian until a new librarian is selected.
C. Discussion of Texas State Library Legislative Requests: February 12th is "Virtual Action Day" for
Texas libraries as a virtual trip to Austin for presenting to the 830 Legislature key initiatives for support
of community libraries. Janis distributed a fact sheet of the initiatives. She also provided the address
and phone information for our Texas House Representative, Gio Capriglione, and our Texas Senator,
Jane Nelson.
V. Miscellaneous Reports and/or Discussions _.
A. Report on Gift Received
1. The Currie Foundation donated $500 which will offset the cost of transportation of the special
dinosaur exhibit this June.
2. Janis learned of a five-year grant opportunity available from Atmos Energy. She is considering a
"Peek -A -Book" program.
B. The next library board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 15, 2013 at 6:30 P.M
