the form from the Department of Health for Epperson to use.

Review of Shelter activity for 2012
Bill McClesky reported 421 adoptions, 58 rescues, and 293 redemptions in 2012. Roy
Stewart asked how long we keep a dog. McClesky answered our policy requires us to
keep a dog for 72 hours before being placed up for adoption.
No action taken.
Goals, needs, and current issues
Bill McClesky talked about the remodeling plans for the shelter including the expansion
of the cat room, the creation of a meet and greet room, and the expansion of the yards
in the back. The plans of the expansion were given to Facility Services.
Capt. Hall explained the reason for an euthanasia room. Capt. Hall reported the
expansion was passed in the current budget. Capt. Hall said the shelter had around
$60,000 in donations to be spent on the good of the animals and ask for suggestions.
Debra Brantner suggested music in the shelter since studies show a calming for
animals. She also suggests Feliway and Adaptil which puts off pheromones that
provides stress relieve for cats and dogs. They can be plugged into the wall outlets.
She also said they had 3 cat rooms and made one of them into a meet and greet room.
Someone had donated money for a dog run in front of their shelter as a visiting area for
prospective adopters also.
Joy Mayo said it is too loud in the dog run area when the dogs are all barking. She felt
it became that way when the new insulation was installed.
Lt. Hudson reported the Police Department is looking to change the name from Animal
Control to Animal Services.
Debra Brantner said they went to Animal Services because Control had a negative
image. We provide a lot of services for animals.
Capt. Hall said we want to promote adoptions and shelter exposure by putting our social
media information on our trucks.
Roy Stewart suggested a sign on the corner of Dove Loop and Shady Brook. A sign
like the ones installed at the parks would be ideal.
Lt. Hudson asked about internships, volunteers, and foster programs.
Capt. Hall said we are stretched thin with only 3 ACOs.
Roy Stewart suggests looking into volunteers from Teen Court.
Bill McClesky explained the current volunteer program with VIPS and 6-12 Grade
students.
Roy Stewart also suggests a volunteer program through the Sr. Citizen Center.
No action taken.
