HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 18 - Wastewater Collection SystemMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: AUGUST 19, 2025
SUBJECT: SERVICES FOR THE ELIMINATION OF THE BUILD UP OF FATS, OIL,
AND GREASE IN THE WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEM
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of services for a trial of
biologically -based services for the elimination of the buildup of Fats, Oils,
and Grease (FOG) in the wastewater collection system with IN -PIPE
Technology (IPT) for the Public Works Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Utility Enterprise Fund in an amount estimated
of $63,000.
BACKGROUND: Council originally approved a six-month trial on December 17, 2024, with
IPT in four hot spot locations within the City to improve the quality of our
wastewater collection system operations.
The six-month trial is complete and the City is seeing a benefit to treating
FOG in this manner and wants to continue with this method of
pretreatment. Staff would like to add five additional locations for the
remaining six months of the year. As a reminder, this system is placed at
locations where have high levels of oils and biologically removes them to
avoid sanitary sewer back ups.
This procurement will be made as a sole source in accordance with Local
Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, § 252.022. General
Exemptions (a)(7)(A).
Staff recommends approval.
