HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 24 - Synthetic TurfMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 16, 2025
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF SYNTHETIC TURF REPAIR FOR DOVE PARK
PLAYGROUND
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of synthetic turf
replacement surfacing at Dove Park from Symmetry Sports Construction
for the Parks and Recreation Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Permanent Capital Maintenance Fund (Parks)
for a total amount not to exceed $69,476.
BACKGROUND: Casey's Clubhouse at Dove Park is one of the most used playgrounds in
the entire Parks and Recreation system and a regional draw due to its
accessible design and features. As such, the combination of wear and
tear and consistently heavy use patterns have made it vital that we
replace certain areas of the current surfacing with a better, safer, and
even more accessible synthetic turf product.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with the Region VIII Education Service Center known as The
Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS) in Texas as allowed by Texas Local
Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas Government Code, Chapter
791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to
Symmetry Sports Construction. The Parks and Recreation and
Purchasing staff reviewed the contract for departmental specification
compliance and pricing and determined that the contract would best meet
the needs of the City.
