Summer Programs Recap
Aquatics Recap for 2025 presented by Emily Marecle. There were 64 rescues but nothing was serious
or life -threatening. There were 790 participants in the Learn to Swim Program. Both pools had a total
of over 41,000 visits.
Grapevine Gators is the Swim Team facilitated by the aquatics department and regulated through
TAFT. There were roughly 224 on the swim team and a total of 325 swimmers participated in the swim
meet at Pleasant Glade Pool on June 215f. Following that, 9 swimmers went to state and Kathy Tony
broke her own swim record in the 70-74 age group in the 50 meter.
This summer we hosted the World's Largest Swimming Lesson again which is coordinated through the
World Waterpark Association. This event is done worldwide, and the goal is to raise water awareness.
In years past, the event has been held during the day at Pleasant Glade Pool. This year, they held the
event in the evening at Dove Waterpark, and the attendance was much higher. They had a total of 75
participants with over 100 in attendance. Grapevine Fire Department also attended and helped provide
instruction.
The REC Summer Camp Recap was presented by Jennifer Kashner. Jennifer introduced Susan Siske
to the Parks Advisory Board as our new Youth Program Coordinator. The REC Camp with 7-9 year
olds had 450 participants and 10-12-year-olds had 300 participants.
The REC also offered an Excursion Camp for 10-12-year-olds that was for 3 weeks this summer. It
was focused on activities only and it was only offered in the morning.
The REC also offered specialty camps this summer and we were able to partner with Grapevine
Elementary School to utilize space for these camps. One of the most popular specialty camps offered
was Chefsville, which was offered for 3 weeks and had a total of 25 participants each week.
The REC offers roughly 1800 programs throughout the year and summer is just a snippet of all that we
offer.
Lake Parks Recap was presented by Morgan and Taylor. The Meadowmere Adventure Center was
completed in May 2025 therefore they were able to have camp out there this summer. The building is
8000 sq feet with 8 glass doors that open up and it is climate controlled.
Taylor introduced Katelyn Ashley to the Parks Advisory Board as our new Summer Programs
Coordinator. This summer at Meadowmere Adventure Center, they offered 10 weeks of summer camp.
2
They had a total of 914 participants, which was double what they were able to offer before.
GCISD Student & Board Liaison Update
Brynley was unable to attend the meeting but emailed her updates in advance. Lavon Light shared
them on her behalf:
• GHS Wrestling had their 6th annual 9111 tribute at Mustang Panther Stadium. This event was to
honor the 412 emergency responders who lost their lives that day. Grapevine and Colleyville
first responders attended, along with some of Grapevine's softball team and some of the cross
country team and simulated the 110 stories of the Twin Towers.
• Volleyball had their rivalry game on September 9th.
• Grapevine Highschool hosted the Grapevine Classic speech and debate tournament on
September 12th through the 14th.

• Homecoming Week is September 23-27, starting with the parade on Wednesday, the pep rally

with the semi -formal dance on Saturday. It's always a highlight of the year, bringing together
students, families, and the community.
• This weekend, September 19-20, CHHS will host the Heart of Texas Girls Golf Tournament,
welcoming nearly 200 players for the state's largest all -girls event.
• On September 25, students will head to the district -wide College Fair at Grapevine High School,
an opportunity to meet with colleges and begin scholarship conversations.
• The football team has had ups and downs: a road loss in their opener, a 30-21 win over Richland
at home on September 5, and a rained -out game last week. Now they're preparing for the
Homecoming game on September 26 with hopes of building momentum.
• Volleyball had their Red Rail rivalry against Grapevine earlier this month on September 9, with
CHHS taking the sweep.

Kathy Spradley, our GCISD Board Liaison, provided an update. Kathy also shared that the GCISD CTE

shared some of the changes that the district is facing in regards to enrollment. They are evaluating
those facilities that are below 60% capacity, they are currently in the "discovery phase" and no long
term decisions or recommendations have been made. Kathy directed those to the district website and
the EMPC which has been recently added. Kathy has made herself available for anyone with further
questions regarding the EMPC.
Citv Council

council meeting there were minor revisions to some city ordinances. Chris also shared about new Futsal

Park and there will be 3 more playgrounds installed next year. PumpkinFest is coming back this year
for 3 weekends, as well as Sunset Live. Regarding Christmas, there are additional safety measures
that are taking place to ensure people are kept safe during the season. A friendly reminder that we will
be updating headshots for those interested on Thursday Sept 25t" between 11-12 at the Botanical
