HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11 - Firefighter TuitionMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 18, 2025 SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR PURCHASE OF TUITION FOR THREE FIREFIGHTERS EMT/B's TO ATTEND PARAMEDIC CERTIFICATION PROGRAM. RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval to purchase tuition for three Firefighters to attend a paramedic certification program at the EMS Training School LLC, dba "School of EMS." FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in EMS training budget 100-44505-250-255-000000 for a total amount not to exceed $24,750.00 for three Firefighters to attend the School of EMS Paramedic certification program. BACKGROUND: In an effort to enhance the capabilities of our Fire Department and ensure the highest level of emergency medical services for our community, three recently hired Firefighter/EMT-B personnel are scheduled to attend paramedic school. This training is a requirement of their continued employment and aligns with our strategic goals of improving emergency response services and supporting our fire department staff in their professional growth. The EMS Training School LLC, dba "School of EMS," is a registered vendor and has been used in the past with great success. The School of EMS is a hybrid paramedic program in which students attend classes both online and on campus at its in -person location in Farmers Branch, Texas. The paramedic program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs CAAHEP (CoAEMSP program 600463). The school began over 40 years ago as the East Texas Medical Center EMS clinical department in Tyler, Texas.
