SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF MOTOROLA MOBILE RADIOS, CHARGERS, AND
ACCESSORIES FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the approval of the purchase of Motorola mobile
radios, chargers, and accessories from Motorola Solutions, Inc. for the
Police Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Fund for an amount not to
exceed $352,035.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for 56 Motorola APX N70 portable radios to replace
equipment that has reached the end of its service life. These mission -
critical devices are used daily by officers to maintain reliable
communication with the communications center, each other, and other
agencies. This order will complete the transition to new radios for all
sworn staff.
The purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with the Houston -Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), as allowed
by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271, and Texas Government
Code, Chapter 791. Bids were taken by the Cooperative, and a contract
was awarded to Motorola Solutions, Inc.
Police and Purchasing staff have reviewed the contracts for departmental
specification compliance and pricing and have determined that this
contract provides the best products and pricing to meet the needs of the
City.
Recommendation: Staff recommends approval of this purchase
