STANDARDS METAL AND FLEXIBLE THIRD EDITION (2005)" IN IT'S ENTIRETY.
PROVIDE ALL 90-DEGREE SQUARE ELBOWS WITH DOUBLE RADIUS TURNING VANES
UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED. PROVIDE ACCESS DOORS UPSTREAM OF ALL ELBOWS
WITH TURNING VANES.
CERTAIN ITEMS SUCH AS RISES AND DROPS IN DUCTWORK, ACCESS DOORS, VOLUME
DAMPERS, ETC., ARE INDICATED ON THE CONTRACT DOCUMENT DRAWINGS FOR
CLARITY FOR A SPECIFIC LOCATION REQUIREMENT AND SHALL NOT BE INTERPRETED AS

INSTALL ALL NEW MATERIALS, INCLUDING REQUIRED SEALANTS, FLASHINGS AND COUNTER FLASHINGS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
MANUFACTURER’S STANDARD DETAILS AND WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS TO ENSURE A WATERTIGHT INSTALLATION. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A ONE-YEAR INSTALLATION WARRANTY AND OBTAIN A TWENTY-YEAR MANUFACTURER ’S WARRANTY

ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS
CODES & STANDARDS
ALL MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE CODES, SPECIFICATIONS, LOCAL
ORDINANCES, INDUSTRY STANDARDS, FEDERAL OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARDS, AND UTILITY
COMPANY REGULATIONS. IN NO CASE WILL WORK OR MATERIALS INFERIOR TO THESE SPECIFICATIONS BE ACCEPTED
EVEN IF PERMITTED BY CODES. ALL REFERENCES TO THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE OR NEC ARE REFERENCED TO
THE LATEST EDITION ADOPTED BY THE LOCAL CODE ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.
IN CASE OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BUILDING CODES, SPECIFICATIONS, STATE LAWS, LOCAL ORDINANCES, INDUSTRY
STANDARDS, FEDERAL OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARDS, UTILITY COMPANY REGULATIONS, AND THE
CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, THE MOST STRINGENT SHALL GOVERN.
NON-COMPLIANCE: SHOULD THE CONTRACTOR PERFORM ANY WORK THAT DOESN'T COMPLY WITH THE
REQUIREMENTS OF THE APPLICABLE BUILDING CODES, SPECIFICATIONS, STATE LAWS, LOCAL ORDINANCES,
INDUSTRY STANDARDS, FEDERAL OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARDS, UTILITY COMPANY
REGULATIONS, AND THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BEAR ALL COSTS ARISING IN CORRECTING
THE DEFICIENCIES.
ALL ELECTRICAL, TELECOMM, AND SECURITY MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT SHALL BE UL LISTED FOR ITS INTENDED
PURPOSE.
INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE NECA STANDARDS.
2. SUBMITTALS:
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SUBMITTALS WITH PRODUCT SELECTIONS CLEARLY INDICATED FOR ALL
MATERIALS TO BE USED ON PROJECT, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
26 05 19 - LOW VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL POWER CONDUCTORS AND CABLES
26 05 26 - GROUNDING AND BONDING OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
26 05 29 - HANGARS AND SUPPORTS FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
26 05 33.13 - CONDUIT FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
26 05 33.16 - BOXES FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
26 05 56 - IDENTIFICATION FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
26 24 16 – PANELBOARDS
3.LOW-VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL POWER CONDUCTORS AND CABLES:
ALL CONDUCTORS FOR FEEDERS AND BRANCH CIRCUITS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN CONDUIT AND SHALL BE 600 VOLT,
THHN/THWN-2, COPPER, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE ON THE DRAWINGS. BRANCH CIRCUIT WIRING SHALL BE #12 AWG
MINIMUM, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. UTILIZE SOLID CONDUCTORS FOR #12 AND SMALLER. ELECTRICAL PLAN
ROUTING OF CIRCUITS IS DIAGRAMMATIC IN NATURE AND DOES NOT INDICATE VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL BENDS AND
RISERS REQUIRED FOR PROPER INSTALLATION. COORDINATE ALL ROUTING WITH ARCHITECTURAL OBSTRUCTIONS
AND MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT.
4.GROUNDING AND BONDING FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS:
EQUIPMENT: ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND FIXTURES SHALL BE GROUNDED BY USE OF A GREEN EQUIPMENT
GROUNDING CONDUCTOR (EGC) CONNECTED FROM THE EQUIPMENT FRAME, MOTOR FRAME, OR FIXTURE HOUSING
BACK TO THE GROUNDING BUS IN THE PANELBOARD FROM WHICH THE EQUIPMENT RECEIVES ITS POWER. THE
EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTOR SHALL BE SIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NEC ARTICLE 250.122 AND SHALL BE
ROUTED IN THE SAME RACEWAY WITH THE CORRESPONDING POWER CIRCUIT. WHERE CIRCUIT CONDUCTORS ARE
INCREASED IN SIZE TO PREVENT EXCESSIVE VOLTAGE DROP, THE EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTOR SHALL BE
INCREASED IN SIZE PROPORTIONATELY IN ACCORDANCE WITH NEC ARTICLE 250.122 (B).
DEVICES: GROUNDING OF DEVICES SHALL BE BY MEANS OF A COMMON EGC ATTACHED TO THE GROUNDING
TERMINALS OF ALL DEVICES SERVED BY A COMMON BRANCH CIRCUIT, ROUTED IN THE SAME RACEWAY WITH THE
BRANCH CIRCUIT TO THE PANELBOARD GROUNDING BUS.
5. HANGERS AND SUPPORTS FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
PROVIDE PRODUCTS LISTED, CLASSIFIED, AND LABELED AS SUITABLE FOR PURPOSE INTENDED.
CONDUITS STRAPS SHALL BE STEEL 1-HOLE OR 2-HOLE TYPE.
CONDUIT CLAMPS SHALL BE BOLTED.
METAL STRUT CHANNEL SHALL BE GALVANIZED STEEL 12 GAUGE, 1-5/8 INCH WIDE BY 13/16 INCH HIGH MINIMUM.
HANGER RODS SHALL BE THREADED, ZINC-PLATED STEEL, MANUFACTURER RATED TO SUPPORT WITH INTENDED
WEIGHT, MINIMUM SIZE 3/8 INCHES.
ANCHORS AND FASTENERS
CONCRETE: USE PRESET CONCRETE INSERTS, EXPANSION ANCHORS, OR SCREW ANCHORS .
SOLID OR GROUT-FILLED MASONRY: USE EXPANSION ANCHORS OR SCREW ANCHORS .
HOLLOW MASONRY: USE TOGGLE BOLTS .
HOLLOW STUD WALLS: USE TOGGLE BOLTS .
STEEL: USE BEAM CLAMPS, MACHINE BOLTS, OR WELDED THREADED STUDS .
SHEET METAL: USE SHEET METAL SCREWS .
WOOD: USE WOOD SCREWS .
PLASTIC AND LEAD ANCHORS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
POWDER-ACTUATED FASTENERS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
6.CONDUIT FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS:
CONDUIT SIZE SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 3/4".
PROVIDE PULL BOXES IN ALL CONDUIT RUNS THAT EXCEED 100' AND/OR MORE THAN 3
90-DEGREE BENDS.
THE CONDUIT SYSTEM SHALL CONSIST OF GALVANIZED ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING (EMT), GALVANIZED RIGID
METAL CONDUIT (RMC) , AND LIQUID TIGHT FLEXIBLE METAL CONDUIT (LFMC) INSTALLED AS SHOWN ON THE
DRAWINGS AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE. ELECTRICAL PLAN ROUTING OF CIRCUITS IS
DIAGRAMMATIC IN NATURE AND DOES NOT INDICATE VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL BENDS AND RISERS REQUIRED FOR
PROPER INSTALLATION. COORDINATE ALL ROUTING WITH ARCHITECTURAL OBSTRUCTIONS AND MECHANICAL

PROVIDE GROUNDING TERMINALS WITHIN BOXES WHERE EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTORS TERMINATE.
8.IDENTIFICATION FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS:
USE IDENTIFICATION NAMEPLATE TO IDENTIFY EACH PIECE OF ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTIONS AND CONTROL
EQUIPMENT AND ASSOCIATED SECTIONS, COMPARTMENTS, AND COMPONENTS SUCH AS SWITCHGEAR,
SWITCHBOARDS, MOTOR CONTROL CENTERS, PANELBOARDS, TRANSFORMERS, ENCLOSED SWITCHES,
ENCLOSED CIRCUIT BREAKERS, ENCLOSED MOTOR CONTROLLERS, AND BUSWAY.
IDENTIFY AMPERE RATING, VOLTAGE, AND PHASE.
IDENTIFY POWER SOURCE AND CIRCUIT NUMBER. INCLUDE LOCATION WHEN NOT WITHIN SIGHT OF
EQUIPMENT.
IDENTIFY MAIN AND TIE DEVICES.
IDENTIFY LOADS SERVED FOR EACH BRANCH DEVICE.
IDENTIFY SPARES AND SPACES.
USE WIRE AND CABLE MARKERS TO IDENTIFY CIRCUIT NUMBER OR DESIGNATION INDICATED FOR POWER,
CONTROL, AND INSTRUMENTATION CONDUCTORS AND CABLES AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS:
AT EACH SOURCE AND LOAD CONNECTION.
WITHIN BOXES WHEN MORE THAN ONE CIRCUIT IS PRESENT.
WITHIN ENCLOSURES WHEN CONDUCTORS AND CABLES ENTER OR LEAVE THE ENCLOSURE.
9. PANELBOARDS:
NEW BREAKERS SHALL MATCH EXISTING PANELBOARD UL LISTING.
NEW BREAKER SHORT CIRCUIT RATINGS SHALL MATCH THE RATING OF THE EXISTING PANELBOARD. PANELS
SHALL REMAIN FULLY RATED. SERIES RATING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
NEW BREAKER CAPACITY, VOLTAGE, AND PHASE SHALL BE AS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS.
10. TESTING:
CONTRACTOR SHALL EMPLOY QUALIFIED/CERTIFIED PERSONNEL TO PERFORM ALL REQUIRED TESTS AND
INSPECTIONS.
CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT ALL EXPOSED SECTIONS OF CONDUCTORS AND CABLES FOR PHYSICAL DAMAGE
AND CORRECT CONNECTION.
CONTRACTOR SHALL TEST ALL BOLTED CONNECTIONS FOR HIGH RESISTANCE USING A CALIBRATED TORQUE
WRENCH, TO ENSURE THAT MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED TORQUE IS PROVIDED.
CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT ALL COMPRESSION-APPLIED CONNECTORS FOR CORRECT CABLE MATCH AND
INDENTATION.
CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT ALL EQUIPMENT AND CONDUCTORS TO ENSURE PROPER AND CORRECT
IDENTIFICATION ACCORDING TO THE SPECIFICATIONS.
CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT ALL CONDUCTOR AND CABLING INSULATION/JACKETING FOR DEFECTS AND
IMPERFECTIONS. ALL CONDUCTORS AND CABLES SHALL BE PROVIDED FREE OF DEFECTS AND/OR
IMPERFECTIONS.
CONTRACTOR SHALL TEST ALL THREE PHASE EQUIPMENT FOR CORRECT PHASE ROTATION PRIOR TO
ENERGIZING EQUIPMENT.
11. WARRANTY:
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A FULL FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY ON ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. THIS WARRANTY
SHALL COVER ANY/ALL DEFECTS IN BOTH MATERIAL AND INSTALLATION. ALL DEFECTS DETECTED WITHIN THE
WARRANTY PERIOD SHALL BE CORRECTED AT THE SOLE EXPENSE OF THE CONTRACTOR. THE WARRANTY
PERIOD SHALL START ON THE DATE OF BENEFICIAL OCCUPANCY BY THE OWNER.
