HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 21 - Mariner Shade Structure MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: JANUARY 20, 2026
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT OF THE MARINER SHADE
STRUCTURE FOR DOVE WATERPARK
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the replacement of the mariner
shade structure over the zero-depth pool at Dove Waterpark with Shade
Systems, Inc. for the Parks and Recreation Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Permanent Capital Maintenance Fund (Parks)
for an amount not to exceed $53,714.
BACKGROUND: Replacement fabric for the eight sections on the mariner shade structure
over the zero-depth pool at Dove Waterpark. This is one structure with
eight separate sections of fabric. The fabric is original from the install in
2012. It has several tears and has exceeded it's expected service life.
Unlike the other structures at this park, this structure contains a
proprietary fastening system that requires the OEM to manufacture the
fabric.
The procurement of the shade structure at Dove Waterpark will be made
as a sole source purchase from Shade Systems, Inc. in accordance with
Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, §252.022. General
Exemptions (a) (7) (A). Shade Systems, Inc. is the documented provider
for fabric tensioned shade structures used at Dove Park.
Staff recommends approval.
