Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Senior Citizen Advisory
Board under Citizen Comments or on any other agenda item by completing a Citizen
Appearance Request form with the staff. A member of the public may address the Senior
Citizen Advisory Board regarding an item on the agenda either before or during the
Board’s consideration of the item, upon being recognized by the Chairman or upon the
consent of the Senior Citizen Advisory Board in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings
Act, the Senior Citizen Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or taking action during
Citizen Comments.

The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Senior Citizens Advisory Board met July 1,
2025 at 1:00 p.m. in The REC of Grapevine, 1175 Municipal Way, Grapevine, Texas
with the following members present:

Carey Miller called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m. and provided the invocation.

Presentations and Updates:
Chris Smith provided an update on Settlers Park Phase I of construction, park
amenities, and Phase 1 B the trail extension adjacent to DFW Hilton to enclose the
existing connections of the trail.
Chris Smith presented and answered questions on this year's Fourth of July celebration
operational plans and explained all the requirements for each department involved, ie
PARD, PD and the firework company. Chris explained the areas to park to ensure that
each person is parking correctly.
Trent Kelley provided an update on CAPRA (Commission Parks and Recreation
Association) and the department's reaccreditation process and site visit in June and that
we received passed all 154 standards.
Miscellaneous:
Carey Miller confirmed the next Senior Advisory Board meeting will take place on
Tuesday, October 7.
Duff O'Dell, Council Member Liaison, gave an update that the City Council has been
doing interviews for appointing boards and commissions. City Council is starting the
budget process. City Council approved a new hotel adjacent to the Hotel Vin. The old
police building on Dallas Road was torn down and a new parking lot was constructed.
Teri Rhodes -Cantu provided a Housing Authority update, and that the Housing Authority
opened their waiting list and applications were received and in less than a day it was
filled.
Chris Smith mentioned that the department in collaboration with BerryDunn is
participating in a Master Plan update and the timeline for the process.
Megan Varner updated the board about upcoming events for the upcoming Fall season.
Carey Miller mentioned that the Empower Seniors Expo is scheduled for October 2 at
Will Rogers Amon Carter exhibit hall.
Isabelle Boyd, Active Adult Laision, was absent, therefore, no update was provided.
Gena Bohl, GRACE Liaison, was absent, therefore, no GRACE update was provided.
