HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 13 - Police Boat and Trailer MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MARCH 3, 2026 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF A BOAT TO SUPPORT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS ON GRAPEVINE LAKE RECOMMENDATION: City Council to approve the purchase of a fully equipped law enforcement 2026 Majek 22-foot Xtreme V-Hull boat and trailer with a 225 horsepower Suzuki AP outboard motor from Ron Hoover Companies for the Police Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Special Revenue Fund (Federal and State forfeiture funds) for an estimated amount of$98,400. BACKGROUND: This purchase is for a law enforcement equipped 2026 Majek 22-foot Xtreme V-Hull boat and trailer with a 225 horsepower Suzuki AP motor. This watercraft will be used to support law enforcement operations and enhance public safety on Grapevine Lake. The purpose of this purchase is to provide the Police Department with a fully equipped law enforcement boat to support proactive on-lake patrols, boating safety enforcement, emergency response, and investigative operations on Grapevine Lake. The vessel will enhance officer safety, improve response capabilities on the water, and increase the Department's ability to protect the public and enforce applicable laws within the lake and surrounding park areas. The Police Department boat will be clearly marked as a police boat and will be towed with a marked police vehicle. The boat will be stored during the warmer months at the City's Fleet Center, and during the cooler months, at the Public Safety Building. The purchase of this boat will be made as a sole source purchase from Ron Hoover Companies, the authorized distributor for the state of Texas in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, §252.022.
