HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 17 - Background ScreeningsMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MARCH 17, 2026 SUBJECT: ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR PRE-EMPLOYEMENT BACKGROUND SCREENINGS RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of an annual contract for pre- employment background screenings with Atlantic Employee Screening for the Human Resources Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Human Resources Department) for annual estimated amount of $25,000. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this contract is to establish fixed annual pricing for pre- employment background screenings. The City has been notified that our current background screening provider, First Check Applicant Screening, will be retiring from business operations. Prior to their closure, First Check conducted a review of other background screening providers and selected Atlantic Employee Screening as the recommended replacement for their existing clients. Atlantic Employee Screening has experience providing pre -employment background screening services for public sector employers and will offer comparable services to those currently utilized by the City. The company uses the same technology platform and is offering the same package pricing for background screenings. Atlantic Employee Screening has been in business since 1997 and currently serves more than 2,500 organizations. This procurement will be made in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, § 252.022. General Exemptions (a) (4), personal, professional or planning services. Staff recommends approval.
