SUBJECT: ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of an annual contract for personal
protective equipment from North America Fire Equipment Company, Inc.
(NAFECO) for the Fire Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Fire Dept.) for an amount not to
exceed $100,000.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is to replace expiring structural firefighting gear as
mandated by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and provide new
department personnel with two sets of protective gear and other related
personal protective equipment throughout the year.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The National Purchasing Partners (NPPGov) as allowed
by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271, and Texas Government
Code, Chapter 791. If approved, this will be for an initial four-year contract
per the terms and conditions of NPPGov contract. One renewal option
available.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative, and a contract was awarded to
NAFECO. The Fire and Purchasing staff reviewed the contract for
departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that
the contract would best meet the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
