HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 18 - VDI Hardware MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: APRIL 21, 2026
SUBJECT: ADDITIONAL VDI HARDWARE FOR EXISTING VIRTUAL MACHINES
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of additional VDI hardware for existing
virtual machines from Waypoint Business Solutions for the IT Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Fund for an estimated
amount of$208,773.
BACKGROUND: This purchase will allow us to expand the hardware capacity of our
existing virtual desktop environment. The additional hardware will provide
increased memory and storage for the virtual machines that support City
users' desktops. By upgrading these resources, we can improve
processing speeds and ensure users have the computing resources
necessary to perform their duties efficiently and reliably.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with Choice Partners, a division of Harris County Department
of Education, as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271
and Texas Government Code, Section 791. The contract was for an initial
one-year period with optional renewals. One optional one-year renewal
remains.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative, and a contract was awarded to
Waypoint. The IT Department and Purchasing staff reviewed the contract
for departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that
the contract would provide the best product and pricing for meeting the
needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
