TX, for the purpose of participating in the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention
Authority Grant Program for the implementation of a drone as First
Responder (DFR) Program.
FUNDING SOURCE: No funding source required for the grant application.
BACKGROUND: The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) administers grant
programs to assist local jurisdictions in reducing motor vehicle theft,
catalytic converter theft, vehicle parts theft, burglary of motor vehicles,
and related organized criminal activity. The purpose of the proposed drone
as First Responder (DFR) program is to reduce response time, enhance
real-time situational awareness, improve officer and public safety, and
increase the deterrence, detection, and investigation of motor vehicle
crimes by deploying unmanned aerial systems that support modern,
flexible response strategies aligned with current best practices.
The total project includes two deployment stations strategically placed
throughout the City to efficiently cover the north and south ends of the
City. Each station has an estimated cost of $80,000, including equipment,
software, and a five-year warranty. Total project cost is $160,000. This
grant funding opportunity requires a twenty percent City matching fund
estimated at $26,667.00, with the grant request estimated at $133,333,
totaling $160,000.
The estimated grant performance period is September 1, 2026, to August
