SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE AWARD OF A QUOTE FOR A DECK EXTENSION
AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S GUN RANGE
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the award of a quote for the
construction of a deck extension at the Police Department's gun range
from Lone Star Mobile Welding, LLC.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Police) for an estimated amount
of $18,250.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for a deck extension in the Police Department's shooting
range between the targets and the bullet berm. The extension will be an 8'
x 32' platform, allowing for the extension of the eight lanes of fire. This
extension will take advantage of unused space, thereby making its use
more effective. The deck extension will be a steel fabrication.
Quotes were received, in accordance with the City Purchasing policy, from
three bidders. Formal bids and advertisements are not required for
purchases under $100,000 per City Purchasing policy.
Three written quotes were received from three bidders: J. HAAs Welding
& Fabrication, LLC; Lone Star Mobile Welding, LLC; and Ratliff Iron
Works, Inc. The amounts of the three quotes are provided, along with the
bidder's names below:
J. HAAS Welding & Fabrication, LLC $19,910.00
Lone Star Mobile Welding, LLC $18,250.00
Ratliff Iron Works, Inc. $14,800.00
Lone Star Mobile Welding, LLC submitted the best quote, meeting
Department specifications. The quote provided by Ratliff Iron Works, Inc.
did not meet the requirements of the Department due to the lack of
structural integrity and projected longevity of their fabrication.
Staff recommends approval.
