Hall 2913 River Crest, Grapev ine, TX 7605 (214) 7/24-1569 Dear Grapevine City Council Members, I am writing to voice my support for Beth Newman and her caf6 Mason & Dixie, I have been a Grapevine resident for the past 6 years after moving "home" from living in Dallas. 1 grew up in Colleyville and attended Grapevine High School before attending Texas A&M University. I fell in love with Mason & Dixie the first time I dined there on my birthday in February not too long after they opened. There delicious, homemade food and unique, relaxing atmosphere has kept me coming back almost weekly, if not more, ever since. I have a son, who is a [win, with rare medical and special needs. Although the blessings are quite abundant, the life any family lives can be quite stressful and overwhelming at times. There was a lovely little caf6 in Dallas I would often go to a late lunch to when my boys were babies and napping while my husband worked from home. It was an escape for me and a chance to decompress, read my bible and typically eat the first meal I would have been able to get to for the day. I was never able to replicate that when we moved until Mason & Dixie opened. Homemade, unique, non -chain restaurants were one of the hardest things for my foodie husband and me to give up after moving. The specialty menu and atmosphere of Mason & Dixie are just the perfect combination and something our town desperately needed. I have brought countless friends in from around our state and even friends passing through DEW on layovers to sample Beth's scrumptious options. I have gotten to know Beth personally over the years as I sometimes still dine alone to clear my, head. Beth has a passion for her menu and it shows in her attention to detail in her flavors and the dishes she creates. She also has a kindness that our community thrives on and is one of the reasons my husband and I moved "home" with our boys. We knew my son would live a life of challenges and we wanted to be near my parents and in a community that aligned with our high priority on family. Beth has raised her children right here in our community as well and she has even gotten to know my children. She shows them the kindness that you would think a business owner from many decades ago might have shown when times were simpler. To me and my family that is something truly invaluable. Mason & Dixie is a gem our town has needed for a long time. Expanding their size and hours will certainly allow Beth to showcase more of her fabulous dishes and cater to an even larger crowd, while becoming an even greater asset to our community. Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback and for your service to our community! Sincerely, Jennifer A. H. Hall zmykk, L March 10, 2017 To Grapevine City Council As a loyal and 15 year resident of Grapevine, I must send this letter as a portent of the future of our great city and a lady who will further out us on the map with her creativity and work ethic . I have been a loyal customer of Mason and Dixie in Grapevine since its inception. The owner Beth Newman came to my attention through friends who raved about this single mom who set up shop in an antique mall off NW highway. A cute concept but hardly what I look for in a progressive restaurant. I have to leave Grapevine for Dallas or Plano or Oak cliff for a meal of the caliber I have become accustomed . I went in and tried the food and thought " what is this and why is it in this antique mall ..... and why is it this good "? I stopped questioning after the 3rd and 4th time eating there as it didn't matter. This tiny place in Grapevine with a chef that cooks out of her house every day with imaginative and quality food that made our city just a little more unique each day. Needless to say, when Beth told me she was going to move to Main Street, I really got this swell of pride, because I am so proud of my city and Main Street and all the unique things we offer. We have never had the clout to be the restaurant Mecca of unique establishments like Greenville Avenue and the Bishop Arts District have become, although.... we can. I have always wanted to have the restaurants and pubs that i am so envious of in other cities in my own backyard. Mason and Dixie is that beginning. We have a story in Beth Newman that is instant human interest and success story rolled into one. Single mom, no formal cooking education, divorced, no prospects, going to lose the house etc. From those ashes rose the Phoenix that is Mason and Dixie, the company that amazes my palate and for the past 5 years caters my yearly Christmas party of 225 plus people and makes them come back year after year with the bold and tasty choices she provides. I cant say it enough that I , we, Grapevine deserves Mason and Dixie on Main St so we can share something that is so Grapevine , so success story, so hard luck no excuses good food that we are on the culinary map for good. We need this to happen to show that one doesn't need to leave our bubble ,but to stay in it to experience the non corporate innovative food that we have to offer. Our time is now and her food is now and I dearly hope that you give her story light to bring hope and full stomachs to us all! Main St. Grapevine, TX 76051 Dear Council Members: I am writing to ask you to support the Main St location for Mason & Dixie restaurant in Grapevine. I have been frequenting Mason & Dixie since it opened over three years ago. In that time I have introduced several friends, family, co- workers and clients to the Mason & Dixie. Many people recommend restaurants for their food, ambiance or service. It is extremely rare when all three come together and that is what Mason & Dixie does. I can go to enjoy great southern style food by myself while getting some work done or take my family to have incredible food, conversation, service and atmosphere that is capped of by a staff that is always in a upbeat mood and that is contagious. I will find a way to get to Mason & Dixie often no matter where it goes, however, the food and experience deserve and fit the Main Street Grapevine feel. In the 13 years I have lived in Grapevine/Southlake I have learned much about the history of Grapevine and the pride behind the City, that is a big part of why I intend to always be in this area. That same feel is very apparent when dining at Mason & Dixie. You can tell in the cooking the owner takes great pride in celebrating and elevating historic dishes to levels most have never experienced and making sure the patrons not only enjoy their food, but have fun as well. When the benefits are so great, it makes good sense to support a business that everyone can enjoy and be proud to have in their city. Thank you so much for your help. Sincerely, Robert (BJ) Knous .J , Q 469-363-0984 MAR 2 12017 By March 19, 2017 Grapevine City Council, I understand that Beth Newman, is actively seeking a new space for her Grapevine Restaurant, Mason & Dixie. I would love to see her have the opportunity to share her wonderful Southern food in a space in downtown Grapevine. Beth has an unbelievable ability to make everyone feel like they are eating at her home when they go to her restaurant. Her food is simply gourmet and delicious! I have also wanted to see another place for lunch in downtown Grapevine. In my opinion, there are lots of places to dine downtown, but 1 really do feel that Grapevine could benefit from the Southern concept she would like to offer. Quite honestly, there are very few options that are the type of restaurants where ladies may want to lunch with friends. Additionally, I think it would be wonderful to have another spot for gatherings such as birthdays and wedding and/or baby showers. 1 feel like there is a lack of space and choices for those type of events. I think Beth's restaurant concept would be a wonderful addition to downtown Grapevine, adding to the spirit of what downtown Grapevine represents. 1 hope you will consider adding this unique Southern food restaurant concept, as it will be a wonderful and unique addition to Main Street. Thank you for your consideration. Best Regards, Michele Owens Grapevine Resident RMAR 2 12017 0 To Grapevine City Council It is with great pleasure that I write this recommendation letter for Beth Newman. I've known Beth for several years and in that short amount of time I can honestly say she is one of my dearest and closest friends. Not only is she a loyal friend but a dedicated, single mother, a successful restaurant owner and all around wonderful member of society. As many of you know, Beth owns a flourishing boutique restaurant and catering business that in the last year has outgrown its current establishment and is continuously decorated in local magazines. With no signs, advertising or commercial kitchen she has proven that her food and hospitality speak for itself. Word of mouth has been her only avenue to expand her passion and daily, she is on a wait and doing countless off scene caterings for residents and local companies. With so much business, she has outgrown her current residence and is in desperate need for kitchen space along with adequate seating for the volume she is now serving. Along with being an excellent chef, hostess and restaurateur, Beth is one of the most optimistic and persistent women I have ever encountered. She is steadfast and refuses to yield when challenges are presented. This journey is no exception. Her passion is an inspiration to her children and to all who know her. I'm in absolute awe of her perseverance through this whole process and know that without a doubt she would be a great asset to Grapevine's Main Street. For Beth this is not just a restaurant but this is her life. She has proven she can succeed despite having the odds against her and now she needs the opportunity and support from you, her community, to grow to her full potential. I do hope you will take into consideration how beneficial this woman and her business can be to Grapevine's Main Street. Sincerely, Katie Rai 10 March 20, 2017 To Whom It May Concern, I cannot say enough good things about Beth, and Mason & Dixie. I have been a frequent client of Mason & Dixie, and am so excited with the possibility of her new location on Main St. With her new larger location I will be able to host Networking Events, and drive more business not only to Mason & Dixie, but to neighboring businesses as well. 1 am also excited that with her expansion she will be able to offer more catering. I have many local Realtors who will be THRILLED to be able to have her delectable cuisine at Open House Events as well as other seasonal events. Beth Newman with Mason & Dixie has worked hard for her unblemished reputation. Her arrival onto Main St. is long overdue. The fact that she will also have a retail space is just the coup de grace!!! Beth has amazing style and has always had a keen sense of what is popular, yet not trendy. She has a class and elegance that is surrounded by accessibility and whimsy. I often turn to her for ideas, and she has never steered me wrong in 14 years. I am looking forward to seeing what she does with her storefront. Ultimately having Mason & Dixie in Grapevine would be a savvy decision for the Grapevine City Council to vote in favor of at this time. Her reputation, drive, and business acumen are something I believe the city cannot do without. 1 will be front and center for the Grand Opening and the Ribbon Cutting. Respectfully, r f Mylo Draven 682-351-2875 2 March 16, 2017 Grapevine City Council City of Grapevine 200 S. Main Street Grapevine, Texas 76051 To Whom It May Concern, I have had the privilege of knowing Beth Newman for over six years. When I met her, she was a stay at home mom that had taken a passion for cooking and home decor and turned it into a side business that she could expand as her kids got older. She was catering and had a home goods/design business that allowed her the flexibility to be there for her kids. When her circumstances changed and she could no longer stay at home, her determination, passion and sheer will turned it into a career. I had the pleasure of being at Mason & Dixie for a sneak preview the day everything was completed and she was ready to open her doors. The transformation of the space was amazing. I didn't have her vision for what it could be but she did. Every detail of the design and decor was under her watchful eye and every recipe on her menu was developed at her hand. What started out as a necessary dream has grown into a successful woman owned business. She continues to receive referrals from word of mouth and has been featured in a number of publications including the Star Telegram, 360 West, Southlake Living, etc. For the last two years, the Star Telegram asked her to participate in their annual holiday feature showcasing both her design talents with her beautiful table settings and her cooking with some of her most sought after recipes. She was also given the honor of being asked to participate in the Carroll Education Foundation's Annual Fundraiser for the last two years which has added even more loyal followers to her restaurant and catering. Most of the people I know go to her current location specifically to eat at Mason & Dixie and the Grapevine Antique Mall gets the benefit because many of her diners go shop either before or after they eat. Her loyal following will bring additional customers to Main Street that might not have gone on their own. In my humble opinion, the City of Grapevine would be very lucky to have Beth Newman and Mason & Dixie on Main Street. Her talent, hard work and amazing food will bring another success story for the city. She will definitely add to the appeal for me and all of her other patrons and friends. Main Street Grapevine, TX 76051 Re: Conditional Use Request for Mason & Dixie 603 S. Main Street Suite 302-303 Dear Councilman and Commissioners, I am very excited about the opportunity to move my business from Northwest Highway to Main Street. Over the last three plus years, Mason & Dixie, was conceived and has grown into a thriving caf6. Originally, my relationship with the Grapevine Antique Market was a booth offering interior design, home goods, and furniture refinishing. The failing cafe space was offered to me as way to further my catering business. I have never worked in a restaurant before, but felt this was something I was meant to do. It truly has been an amazing experience. I am a self-taught chef, which was born out of my love of family, food, & hospitality. I have four children and my love for them and my extended family and friends was the original driving force into the culinary world. Over the years, entertaining friends, holidays, and nurturing others, the passion for food and entertaining progressed into a catering career. I feel the addition to Main Street will be nothing but a positive. All of our food is fresh, seasonal, and made from scratch. I don't have a sign on the road or the building, an on-site kitchen, and am in the back of a strip mall, yet everyday our loyal customers find us. Mason & Dixie is more than a cafe, I put love and creativity into everything I do there and I know my customers feel that. Southern hospitality is a lost art that we are reviving. People want more than a basic meal without a smile; our food is served with a heart and soul. I still personally shop and hand -make everything that goes into and out of that restaurant. [[n M T 0 T CU,O-o3 Philanthropy and partnering in our community is another important goal of mine through this opportunity. A very important focus has been and will be partnering with the Grapevine Farmers Market and other local businesses, creating a stronger business community. We also do a yearly toy/pajama drive benefitting various local charities for children in need. We have sponsored Embrace Grace, participated in Carroll Education Foundation several times, and have started a relationship with Whenwelove.org. The Super Bowl event we just hosted gave over 250 homeless people a place to watch the game and enjoy delicious BBQ feast! A very important component of my business is to support our community and give back at every turn. Mason & Dixie is a destination for comfort, delicious food, and an outstanding coffee program. A destination and haven for foodies, friends, couples, grandparents, a place "where everybody knows your name". I am incredibly appreciative of your time and consideration of this move. As an existing Grapevine business owner, it would be a dream come true in so many ways that words could never express. I honestly cannot think of one negative component that Mason & Dixie's presence on Main Street would bring. A large part of our business is take- out; therefore adequate parking is not an issue. Mason & Dixie will not have outside seating or speakers. We desire to have an inviting, comfortable place for food and fellowship. Our business model will also be selling small home decor items that will be vintage and from market; including specialty food items, hostess gifts, etc. and of course serving fresh, creative, chef -driven food. Our hours of operation will be: Tuesday -Sunday 11-3 with possible expansion to dinner in the foreseeable future, but closing time not exceeding lOpm.
