IV. OLD BUSINESS
Janet Perkins gave the membership report showing the active membership total at 141 with that
number reflecting 12 membership renewals since December 1, 2014 and several donations.
Janet said she would be working with Historic Preservation staff on the "inactive" member list for
a more accurate target group to reach out for renewals.
Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield gave the Nash Farm activity report for December of one school
group with 52 attendees; three interpretive programs with 363 attending; and donations made to
Nash Farm in the amount of$3,300 in memory of Jess Daniel and $2,768 income from the
Christmas Capital of Texas wagon rides.
Jim Lauderdale reported the Frugal Farm Wife program was attended by 46 people and yielded
$114. He said people got involved in the "Chores" topic by washing the curtains on a
washboard, hanging outside on the clothesline and pressing with the iron heated by the wood
stove. The Butchering & Curing program registration was sold out and extended a few spaces
with 33 participants in the Saturday butchering program and 35 in the Sunday curing program.
A Texas Highways magazine crew attended the event and will have a note about the program in
the January 2015 issue and the full story in the January 2016 issue mailed out in December
2015. Jim thanked the board members and named the volunteers who attended the Texas
Living History Association conference in Dallas and those who hosted the pre-conference tour
of Nash Farm on Friday from 10 a.m. — noon.
V. NEW BUSINESS
Chairman Curtis Ratliff called on the board members to become more active in the
Foundation's mission of preservation advocacy. He asked all to consider and search for
incentives, be it tax reliefs or the incentives needed to protect the Bellaire Addition. He asked
all to move forward with more aggressive ideas and discussion in meetings, and more
education to reduce homeowner fears of committing to preservation. Several board members
said they had been contacted about the Bellaire area neighborhood meetings.
The board asked P.W. what the levels of preservation discussed were. P.W. said:
1) Conservation District— purely voluntarily;
2) To extend the Township boundary and regulate as the Township is;
3) Historic District; or
4) To do nothing.
Chairman Curtis Ratliff asked staff to provide preservation advocacy training in 2015.
