1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:30 PM on April 7, 2015 at
the Grapevine Senior Activities Center.
The following members were present:
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson
Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager
Eileen Hinson, Senior Center Supervisor
Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison
Joetta King, Housing Authority
Paul Ernst
Kay Blanding
Pam Price
Dr. Alexander Graham
Maryann Waddell, GRACE

Allie Feldman student at UTA studying Geriatric and Social Work and her mother
attended.

Kay Blanding: None at this time.
5. New Business
a. Duff O'Dell-City Council
-It will be a busy month with a lot going on. A city council meeting is
tonight. Saturday, April 18 is an event - Spring into Nash Farm.

-The Grapevine Housing Authority received a very high score for Senior
Housing Authority.
b. Maryann Waddell-GRACE
-Friends and Family program:
-Total clients: February-120/March-116
-Total commodities delivered: February-91 /March-102
-Volunteer hours: February-97/March-still totaling
-Total Matches: February-22 / March-22
-New Clients: February-3 /March-0
-New Commodities Clients: February-2/March-0
-New Matches (senior with volunteer): February-I/March-1
-New Volunteers: February-3 /March-2
-Volunteer put in a grab bar in a senior's bathroom
-Window was fixed by a volunteer
-A few volunteers have delivered groceries to homebound seniors

-The multigenerational center which is bringing all the community together is
called The REC- recreation, education, community. Grand opening is
Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10 am
-Will no longer use the word"senior"now will be called "Active Adults 55
and Better"
-Going from 48,000 sq ft to 108,000 sq ft. A lot of thought has been put into
the building. This has been a community project with input from everyone.
-There have been tours of the new facility
-Dove Spray Grounds will be opening this weekend
-Early voting will take place at The REC,will start Monda, April 27
-There will be bus routes for the seniors on Saturday, April 25 for the Grand
Opening
-Just to be aware,there is an IRS scam going around.

"seniors"?
-From a marketing group; wanted to increase the range for the age group

-New look for The Grape Affair, the monthly newsletter
-Tax Aide has two more days -Wednesday April 8 and 15
-Many field trips coming up: Rangers Baseball games, Ennis Wildflower
Tour, men going to Aurora UFO crash site, Sundance Square, Fort Worth Zoo
-Chorus will be going to Kindred, Stoneybrook and Woodridge to sing.
-Starting to clean house and get ready for the move
-Adding some new classes: cycling and indoor aquatics
-Friday, April 3 we had a cookout and decorated all the tables in themes,
afterwards the participants were able to take items home

-Asking about dog parks and survey involving dog parks and the residents.
(Duff) Surveys went out through water bill, website and various social
media outlets. Survey was not for actual voting on dog parks,just to get an
idea for the council.
-Talked about SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) and the
possibility for the Grapevine Police to come talk about fraud.
6. The meeting adjourned at 4:15 pm.
