The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met May 19, 2016 at 6:00
p.m. in The REC of Grapevine Administration Conference Room, 1175 Municipal Way,
Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to -wit:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Roy Robertson and seconded by Debra Tridico to approve the
April 21, 2016 minutes. Motion passed 6-0.
Ayes — Ray Harris, Roy Robertson, Terry Musar, Debra Tridico, Gary Humble, and
Dave Buhr.
Nays— None
Absent — Larry Francis, John Dalri, and Krystyna Plut.
Citizen Requests
• Travis Smith with Dallas Off Road Bicycling Association (DORBA) was present to
express concern for the Horseshoe Trailhead in connection with the proposed
dog park.
New Business
September 15, 2016 Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Meeting.
A motion was made by Dave Buhr and seconded by Terry Musar to move the meeting
to September 22, 2016. Motion passed 6-0.
Ayes — Ray Harris, Roy Robertson, Terry Musar, Debra Tridico, Gary Humble, and
Dave Buhr.
Nays— None
Absent — Larry Francis, John Dalri, and Krystyna Plut.
Presentation
Trent Kelley, Recreation Manager, and Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor gave a
presentation on Active Adults 55 & Better. Items included programs offered such as
SeniorMovers, lunches, field trips, Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, other programs such as
Matter of Balance and Aging Mastery in partnership with Baylor, and fitness class
geared towards those 55 & better. The monthly Grape Affair newsletter was distributed,
which covers all activities, classes, and events that are 55 & better specific. The
importance of combining the active adults in a multi -generational facility, The REC, was
beneficial for the well-being and socialization of seniors. The membership count at the
old Senior Activity Center (SAC) was 600, and now at The REC the membership for
active adults is 2,187.
PARD Informational Items (No Action Taken)
Athletics — Chris Smith reported on the following:
Twelve baseball tournaments have been hosted so far this year. Staff is preparing the
PARD Booth for Main Street Fest this coming weekend.
Capital Projects — Kevin Mitchell reported on the following:
Dog Park public meeting summary report, SH 114 Phase I, II, and III, and Wall Farrar
Trail.
Lake Parks — Kevin Mitchell reported on the following:
Grapevine Lake is 5 feet above normal pool. Eight cabins have been moved back to
the Vineyards Campground, and the new gate house is being installed on Monday 5/23.
A dry camping chili cook -off was hosted at the Campground on 5/14. The new lake
park passes are now available.
Parks Maintenance — Kevin Mitchell reported on the following:
Sunshine Harbor Park will be completed once the grass is installed. Shade is being
added to Casey's Clubhouse.
Recreation/Special Events — Chris Smith reported on the following:
Mother/Daughter Tea was hosted on 5/7 and showed positive results from the survey.
The first film in the Fourth Friday Film Series will be at Heritage Park on 5/27. The
Archery Experience will be at The REC on 6/4. The Father/Son Amazing Race will be
at Parr Park on 6/11. At the 6/7 City Council meeting, the Gold Medal award, Ione -star

programming award, and facility design award that were awarded to PARD at the
TRAPS conference, are being presented to Council, as well as the 30th year of
Grapevine being a Tree City USA.
Miscellaneous Board Items (No action taken)
Keep Grapevine Beautiful (KGVB) — Dave Buhr reported on the following:
The Don't mess with Texas Trash -Off clean-up event was held on Saturday, 4/9. The
EPIC Earth Day event was held on Saturday, 4/16 at the Botanical Gardens. The next
KGVB Board Meeting is 6/6. Recycling receptacles will be in the streets at Main Street
Fest, along with volunteers to collect grease and other recyclable items.
GCISD Report — Ray Harris gave a report on the following:
The GCISD Bond passed 54%-46%.
High School Student (GHS) Report — Abby Sandy reported on the following:
The beautification project at the triangle of Dove Road and Wall Street was completed
on 5/14. GHS baseball plays on 5/19 in the regional tournament. GHS boys pole
vaulter was state champ with a vault of 16'6'. One Act Play performs at state next
week.

Motion was made by Gary Humble and seconded by Terry Musar to adjourn the
meeting at 6:53 p.m. Motion passed 6-0.
