Kevin Mitchell, Director of Parks & Recreation CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met April 21, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in The REC of Grapevine Administration Conference Room, 1175 Municipal Way, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to -wit: MEMBERS Ray Harris, Chairman Roy Robertson John Dalri Terry Musar Krystyna Plut Debra Tridico With the following members absent: Larry Francis Gary Humble Dave Buhr LIAISONS Paul Slechta (City Council) Becky St. John (GSISD) Abby Sandy (Student — GHS) Constituting a quorum with the following members of the City Staff: Kevin Mitchell Director Chris Smith Deputy Director Scott Hardeman Athletics Manager The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. A moment of silence was observed. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Debra Tridico and seconded by John Dalri to approve the March 17, 2016 minutes. Motion passed 6-0. Ayes — Ray Harris, Roy Robertson, John Dalri, Terry Musar, Krystyna Plut, and Debra Tridico Nays— None Absent — Larry Francis, Gary Humble, and Dave Buhr Citizen Requests • Kathleen Morris with the Grapevine Shield Foundation was present to inform Parks Board of the 7'h annual Police vs. Fire softball game on Saturday, April 23. • Mike Morris with the U.S. Auxiliary Coast Guard was present to offer their assistance where needed throughout the Lake Parks system. New Business Consider approval of the following new Adopt -An -Area Agreement: • Roy & Alicia Poe for Bear Creek, from Pool Road to Old Mill Run A motion was made by Roy Robertson and seconded by Terry Musar to approve the new Adopt -An -Area agreement. Motion passed 6-0. PARD Informational Items (No Action Taken) Athletics — Scott Hardeman reported on the following: Spring/summer youth basketball league begins this coming weekend at GCISD and FSC facilities with 170 teams playing. Softball field #3 has been reopened and is now ready to use for practices, games, and rentals. Capital Projects — Kevin Mitchell reported on the following: Concrete mow strips are being put in at State Highway 114 for landscape enhancements, phase II, between Texan Trail and Main Street. Parks Maintenance — Kevin Mitchell reported on the following: Sunshine Harbor Park is almost 100% complete. The grand opening and ribbon cutting will occur on May 19, 2016 at 4:30pm. Recreation — Chris Smith reported on the following: On April 23 & 24, The REC will host an open house weekend for all visitors to use the entire facility, free of charge. Monday, April 25, will mark the one year anniversary of The REC of Grapevine and in honor, the department will host a membership appreciation day and celebration for all members. The new REC Aquatics Center Sprayground and Parr Park Sprayground will be useable the date of May 1, and Dove Park Sprayground will open on Tuesday, May 3. 2 Special Events — Chris Smith reported on the following: The mother/son event "007 Diamonds are Forever" will take place on Friday, April 22 at Compass Center. The Mother/Daughter Mad Hatter Tea Party is approaching on May 7 and will be held at The REC of Grapevine; all three sessions are sold out. The first film of the "Fourth Friday Film Series" will be on May 27 at Heritage Park. The Father/Son Amazing Race event will be on June 11 at Parr Park. Miscellaneous Board Items (No action taken) Keep Grapevine Beautiful (KGVB) — Kevin Mitchell reported on the following: The Don't mess with Texas Trash -Off clean-up event was held on Saturday, April 9 and included 171 volunteers, 394 hours worked, 6,560 pounds of trash, and 620 pounds of recycling. The EPIC Earth Day event was held on Saturday, April 16 at the Botanical Gardens and included 300 attendees, 22 vendors, and 28 volunteers. GCISD Report — Becky St. John reported on the following: A recap of Dr. Ryan's presentation over the bond election and the approaching date of the bond election on May 7 for GCISD. High School Student (GHS) Report — Abby Sandy reported on the following: Seven students are advancing to the state tennis tournament in College Station. May 7 is the prom. On May 14, a group of students in the "Interact" program will conduct a service project for beautifying the intersection at Dove Road and Wall Street with flowers. Adjourn Motion was made by Terry Musar and seconded by Debra Tridico to adjourn the meeting at 7:17 p.m. Motion passed 6-0.
