Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:30 pm on February 2, 2016 at The REC of Grapevine. The following members were present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Carey Miller Charles Burns Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager Eileen Hinson,Active Adult Supervisor Karen Rice, Housing Authority Paul Ernst Kay Blanding Pam Price Maryann Waddell, GRACE Those not present: Dr. Alexander Graham Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison 2. Guests: None 3. Consideration of minutes for December 1, 2015 meeting Approved 4. Citizen Requests Kay Blanding: The Aging Mastery Program currently in progress has been very nice. 5. New Business a. Grapevine Housing Authority- Karen Rice - During the 28 Jan GHA meeting the Commissioners were updated on the transition of the voucher program to Tarrant County. The transfer occurred Jan 1 and the transition has gone very smoothly. The GHA staff ensured success with lots of orderly paperwork. 1 - HUD has proposed a rule for Smoke Free Public Housing. The final revision of the rule will come out after the public comment window has closed (Jan 19). GHA already has a policy of no-smoking in the units, but the HUD rule under consideration would be tighter(no smoking on porches). Asked if REC would offer any classes to help with the smokers? Depends on the demand; Tena also mentioned HMO offers classes as well. b. Maryann Waddell-GRACE -Friends and Family program: -Total clients: December 110/January 106 -Total commodities delivered: December 90/January 93 (not all clients take commodities) -Volunteer hours: December 208.5 /January-still totaling -Total Matches: December 26 /January 26 -New Clients: December 0/January 1 -New Commodities Clients: December 0/January 1 -New Matches (senior with volunteer): December 0 /January 1 -New Volunteers: December 0/January 1 -Partnering with Women's Division of Grapevine Chamber to visit seniors that are shut in and would like a friendly visit. -Delivered groceries, wheelchairs, shower chairs, walkers, and canes, jackets, nightgowns to homebound seniors and disabled as needed. -Helping seniors and disabled with financials and clothing as needed. -Grace volunteers deliver commodities monthly to those clients who sign up for this program. For December commodities clients were each given a ham and all the fixings for a Christmas dinner. -Partnering with Cannon Elementary in making Christmas Cards. -Women's Division of the Chamber partners with GRACE to help senior GRACE clients receive Christmas gifts. -January 2016/GRACE senior clients will be asked to come in to update their files for 2016. The homebound clients will receive a home visit to update files. -GRACE new Retail Store is open in Euless. -VITA will be at GRACE to help with taxes. c. Trent Kelley-REC -Dry erase board will be put up in the computer lab -Pam Price was named"Woman of the Year"through the Chamber of Commerce. -Made changes in Active Adult classes and new instructors; starting to get back to hosting dances for Active Adults. -Carlos Flores is now a Fitness Coordinator and Nick Garcia is with the Active Adults. 2 d. Eileen Hinson—Active Adults -Aging Mastery Program, 10 week program every Thursday. Is a huge success as they were planning on 30 participants and now have over 50. -AARP Tax Aide starts tomorrow and is every Wednesday until April 13 from 8:30am to 5:30pm. -Ladies are going to Faith Christian School for a Valentines Breakfast on Friday, Feb 12. -Many trips going on: Dallas Arboretum, Bush Library, Perot Museum and Megan's Lunch Bunch to Red Lobster. e. Dick Guckel -Computer Classes: 87 signups for this semester. Have many classes including: iPhone, android and google. -Tax Aide will have 8 volunteers with extended hours. -Last week was Identity Theft Awareness and talked to participants at lunch about this. 6.
