OLD BUSINESS
Janet Perkins announced the June renewal for membership notices had been mailed. A
$250 donation to the Foundation was made in March and there are now 202 active
members.
Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield reported attendance was up at Nash Farm with March
tours of approximately 500 students; Farm Manager Cody Jolliff noted 75 of the visitors
counted were under three years of age. Balla Wright asked for the number of tours,
Cody said they average three to four tours per week. He said Artist Jim McGinnis was
hand painting new signage, a new information brochure rack and many small projects
were underway. The Farm Store will celebrate its Grand Opening at the Spring Into
Nash (SPIN) event; new custom cabinetry is now in place for merchandising, a counter
for the register and a lock drawer. The April 28 Farm to Fork Supper now has sold 56
tickets, Council Liaison Mike Lease and several board members said they would be
purchasing tickets. The online pre-sold tickets will be closing down next week as the
numbers are due for the caterer. Heritage Preservation Programs staff mailed over 200
hand addressed letters of invitation and Cody hand delivered invitations to the 44
homes surrounding the Farm.
Treasurer Balla Wright gave the update on the Grapevine Heritage Foundation's
scholarship posted for a graduating senior. Chairman Ratliff said he wanted to clarify
the school's scholarship rules as we learn more about the process. Janet Perkins
asked about the possibility of a student intern, Paula Newman explained the process
with the city; discussion followed. Balla asked about sponsorships, she was
disappointed there were none; discussion followed.
Paula Newman reported on the Palace Arts Center(PAC) saying there was normal
maintenance and they are studying a new roof, it would be a difficult job with rooftop air
conditioning and flashing. She named the many events and groups at the PAC through
the end of the month and noted on May 6 they would host Fiesta de Mayo; the May 14
Mother's Day Brunch; and they were having a lot of inquiries from the Wedding Spot
site. Chairman Ratliff asked about the marquee lights, Paula said the decision had
been the lights are only on when they are open. Chairman Ratliff said when they first
renovated, the lights were on every evening; he was in Oklahoma, the past weekend,
and saw every little town's theater lit up. Paula said she would take his comments back
and pursue. Councilman Mike Lease said he would check around, too.
