1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:31 pm on February 7, 2017
at The REC of Grapevine.
The following members were present:
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison
Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager
Eileen Hinson,Active Adult Supervisor
Kay Blanding
Isabelle Boyd
Pam Price
Linda Troeger, Housing Authority

2. Consideration of minutes for December 6, 2016 meeting

3. Citizen Requests
Isabelle Boyd: Wonderful Christmas party and many gifts. Took a trip to Dallas
Arboretum at night and it was fantastic.
Kay Blanding: Faith Christian is having a Ladies Valentines Breakfast on
Tuesday, February 14. Many seniors' rents at apartments are being raised and
they are having to move.
4. New Business
a. Grapevine Housing Authority- Linda Troeger
-New Executive Director Kim is working part time now as Debra is
retired.
-Toured the burned units and one is already occupied and the other should
be soon.

-Elks Lodge is having the Annual Dinner for 20 seniors from Housing
Authority. Try to invite the new residents and then others are invited.
b. Maryann Waddell—GRACE
-Friends and Family program:
-Total clients: December 113 /January 113
-Total commodities delivered: December 96/January 83
-Volunteer hours: December 201.5 /January(not totaled)
-Total Matches: December 25 /January 25
-New Clients: December 1 /January 1
-New Commodities Clients: December 0/January 0
-New Matches (senior with volunteer): December 1 /January 2
-New Volunteers: August 3/ September 2
-Partnering with Women's Division for their annual "Christmas Spirit"
event, all GRACE clients received gifts.
-Partnered with Cannon Elementary for the"kid made"holiday cards for
Christmas. They are distributed on commodities day.
-Christmas Cottage is a GRACE program that provides new,unwrapped
gifts to families facing financial hardship due to limited income or recent
emergency. It will be open from December 8-22.
-Many home visits are made in January to update Friends &Family
homebound clients' files.
-VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a free tax preparation
program returning to GRACE. For Spanish and English speaking residents
with annual income up to $55,000.
c. Trent Kelley- Recreation Facilities Manager
-Pavilion is back up at Vineyards Campground.
-Deck work at the cabins and improvements going on.
-Greenhouse opened at the Botanical Gardens.
-Daddy Daughter Dance had over 1,500 people at Compass Church.
-Mother/Son event coming up.
-Racquetball court at The REC was flooded and should reopen soon.
-Pickleball is now Monday through Thursday, coed and mostly 55 and
better adults playing.
-Volunteer brunch was this past weekend.
-70 students and Rotary members volunteering at Meadowmere Park.
-Light fixtures will be replaced in the aquatics area.
d. Eileen Hinson-The REC/Active Adults
-There will be a Valentines dance and party at The REC hosted by the
National Honor Society students from Bryon Nelson High School on
Saturday, February 13.
-Matter of Balance is starting in March and partnering with Baylor Scott
and White.
-Saturday, March 25 is the Touring Lunch.

-Have many field trips going on the next few months.
e. Dick Guckel
-Working with the Commissioner's office to advertise Tax Aide. Last year
the Grapevine site filed over 200 returns. This year 2017,there is new
software. Tax Aide is at The REC on Wednesdays with 9 people
volunteering.
f. Duff O'Dell
-Tom Thumb is coming back to Grapevine in the old location.
-Working on Quality of Life Fund.
-Talked about the Animal Shelter.
-Elections will be held for Place 5 and 6 in May.
-Talked about the Public Art Group and needing citizens.
-Fieldhouse already needs to expand to larger courts.
