1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:33 pm on April 4, 2017 at
The REC of Grapevine.
The following members were present:
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison
Trent Kelley, Recreation Manager
Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor
Kay Blanding
Isabelle Boyd
Pam Price
Linda Troeger, Housing Authority
Rhonda Madsen
Maryann Waddell, GRACE
Carey Miller

2. Consideration of minutes for February 7, 2017 meeting

Kay Blanding: The new Power Time class is great.
4. New Business
a. Duff O'Dell
-Working on railroad crossings, adding silent guards.
-Tomorrow is the Rotary meeting and the TxRail will be speaking.
-Coming upon budget preparation time.
-Multiple openings and renewals on many of the Boards in Grapevine.
-Working on updating the Animal Shelter.
-Fire stations are going to be updated and upgraded.
-Public Safety Building should open late summer,
-TxRail and new depot coming soon.
b. Grapevine Housing Authority- Linda Troeger
- New Executive Director has resigned, Board looking for a new director.
-GHA is no longer Section 8
-GHA is preparing for an audit by HUD in October or November.
c. Maryann Waddell — GRACE
-Friends and Family program:
-Total clients: February 112 / March 114
-Total commodities delivered: February 86 / March 80
-Volunteer hours: February 68 / March (not totaled)
-Total matches: February 26 / March 27
-New clients: February 1 / March 1
-New commodities clients: February 1 / March 1
-New matches (senior with volunteer): February 2 / March 1
-New volunteers: February 2 / March 3
-Partnering with Women's Division made greeting cards for seniors and
they were distributed at March commodities.
-Many Section 8 Grapevine people have moved to Euless, Hurst and
Alliance Airport areas.
-The Makarios Community School has partnered with Friends & Family to
do home visits for gathering Senior Life Stories.
-The Friends & Family program is in need of wheelchairs.
-GRACE is accepting preowned hearing aids.
-Many home visits were made in February and March to update Friends &
Family homebound clients' files.
-Driving Through The Night is the GRACE upcoming fundraiser. Date is
April 21 at Grapevine Golf Course, beginning at 5:30pm.
d. Trent Kelley- Recreation Manager
-RV show at The Vineyards Campground this past weekend, PARD
served over 500 hotdogs and brats from the new mobile grill.
-Easter Egg Hunt at Nash Farms Saturday April 8.
-TVs in REC are being networked with Magic info for advertisements.
-There will be a daytime fitness class in the summer for teachers.
-The REC summer camps are half full, and filling up quickly.
-Membership Appreciation Day is on Monday, April 24.
-Parr sprayground has been resurfaced, and all spraygrounds will open
May 1.
-Katie's Woods FEMA project is wrapping up.
-Shade coverings being put up at Meadowmere Park.
-Tree trimming along Dove Road.
-Texas Trash Off was held and there were 75 volunteers with over 150
hours.
e. Eileen Hinson- The REC/Active Adults
-Tax Aide is wrapping up, have two more days.
-(Dick) March they had 133 clients, looking at a total of about 230
clients served for March and April. They have 9 volunteers who
help with Tax Aide. Grapevine's IT sets up the computers.
-Mah Jongg tournament will be held at The REC on May 1, about 35 to 45
people expected.
-Going to the RoughRiders baseball game in May.
-Matter of Balance class was held in March, will host another one in the
fall.
-Still looking for volunteers for SeniorMovers drivers.
-Volunteer Appreciation Lunch will be Friday, April 28 at 11:30am at Salt
Grass; all were invited and will receive invite in mail.
-Have many field trips going on.
-Chorus is growing and also going out to the community to sing at various
locations.
