MINUTES
The Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors met in Regular Session
on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors
Bureau, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following persons in

CALL TO ORDER
Board Chair, Joe Szymaszek, called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES.
Motion was made by Dan Weinberger, seconded by Mark Terpening to approve
minutes from the February 23, 2017 meeting. Motion prevailed by the following vote:
Ayes: Szymaszek, Terpening, Weinberger and Meek.

LIAISON UPDATES
Heritage Foundation Activities
Melva Stanfield reported the Heritage Foundation is increasing promotion for new
members and is creating a Speakers Bureau to educate organizations on Grapevine's
history and heritage.
Nash Farm
The Farm will host the "Wood Stove Cooking Workshop" on March 25th, the Parks
Department's Annual Easter Egg hunt on April 8th and Spring into Nash on April 22nd. A
new fund raising event, "Farm to Fork", will be held April 28th featuring a progressive -
style dinner with a historically -inspired menu. Chef Fabien of Main Street Bakery will
cater. Dinner is for 150 maximum. Tickets are $100 each.
Chamber of Commerce
Chamber liaison, Theresa Mason, reported that the Chamber has two upcoming events.
The Great Taste of Grapevine is set for Thursday, March 30th, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the
Courtyard Towne Plaza Suites Marriott. The number of restaurants had to be limited
due to high interest in the event. Saturday, April 8th, is the date for the Chamber's
spring job fair to be held at Grapevine High School.
A new logo is being designed for the Chamber incorporating its new five-star rating
designation. The new logo will be incorporated as printed materials are needed.
Joe Szymaszek reported that the Chamber's communication officer, William Moore, has
resigned. New communications officer, Ponce Duran, will be joining the Chamber
shortly.
SALES & MARKETING REPORT
Mr. Closson reported that for the month of February, the convention and leisure sales
team had 70 sales leads with 60,000 potential room nights and a potential economic
impact of $36,000,000. 22 groups have been booked representing 4,300 room nights
with an economic impact of $5,000,000. There were eight site inspections representing
6,500 room nights and $4,000,000.
The Leisure Sales and Service team attended South Asia Tourism and Travel
Exchange (SATTE) in New Delhi, India. Daily flights into DFW on Emirates, Etihad and
Qatar rank DFW eleventh in United States in market visitation and seventh in overall
spending. Texas welcomed 155,000 Indian visitors in 2015 ranking second in
visitations and first in spending with $217 million.

Australia is ranked third in Texas visitation and fourth in spending. 90% of Australians
travel for vacation and holiday.
The team had representation at the Houston and San Antonio Home and Garden
shows.
The Visitor Information Center, Settlement to City and Depot welcomed over 4,200
guests and distributed over 86,000 brochures.
Destination Services assisted nine groups representing 12,000 attendees with an
economic impact of over $9,300,000.
The Convention Center, Palace Arts Center and Concourse booked a combined 59 new
definites with an economic impact of $831,000.
The website saw an 8.5% increase in the number of unique visitors
For marketing, there were 13 print trade publication insertions. Online advertising
realized 4.2 million impressions.
Print ad value was $1.2 million representing 2,900,000 circulating impressions;
electronic ad value was $32,000 generating 216,000 impressions.
No action taken by the Board.
NEW BUSINESS
Cotton Belt Corridor Branding Up -Date
Mr. McCallum reported on the status of the upcoming Cotton Belt corridor rail station,
boutique hotel, parking garage, plaza and accompanying branding efforts. The
opportunity to enhance Dallas Road to a more seamless flow is also under discussion.
Key components are the branding effort of the hotel and parking garage complex which
are currently under discussion. Stakeholders and Grapevine citizens will be surveyed
for thoughts and input on how Grapevine is perceived within the community. Others
outside of Grapevine will be contacted for their input on how Grapevine is viewed as a
destination.

Grants In Aid Requests
Two Grants In Aid requests for funding were discussed. The first, Tarrant Area Guild of
Storytellers, submitted a request for $1,100 to cover expenses in conjunction with
Spring Fling and Spring into Nash as well as Bewitched by the Barn to be held in the
Fall. After discussion, the Board determined to grant the full request of $1,100.
Motion to approve the Tarrant Area Guild of Storytellers request was made by Dan
Weinberger and seconded by Mark Terpening.

Nays: None
The second Grants in Aid request was from Melange Musical in the amount of $3,300
for use in publicizing an upcoming chamber musical performance at the Palace Arts
Centre. After discussion, the Board determined to grant the full request of $3,300.
Motion to approve the Melange Musical request was made by Mark Terpening and
seconded by Dan Weinberger.

OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business to address.
HOTELS/ATTRACTIONS ACTIVITIES
Brady Closson reported the addition of several new domestic flights into and out of
DFW Airport as well as two new international nonstop flights to Amsterdam and Rome
later this year.
In February, DFW was recognized as the best largest airport in North America in
passenger satisfaction. This designation was for large airports serving 40 million or
more passengers annually.
DFW Airport will be one of the first of the larger airports to add an urgent care and
pharmacy on premises. Its location will probably be on the south side of the airport but
has not been finalized.

ADJOURNMENT
Next meeting to be held April 20th. There being no further business to come before the
Board, a motion by Dan Weinberger and seconded by Mark Terpening to adjourn the
meeting at 9:09 a.m. prevailed by the following vote:
Ayes: Terpening, Meek, Szymaszek, Weinberger
Nays: None
