IV. OLD BUSINESS
Vice Chairman Stanfield gave the Nash Farm activity and Farmhand reports; the board
agreed they only need to see the final re-cap page of the Farmhand report. Melva reported
the June totals for activities of 11 school groups, five interpretive programs and Dairy Day
with attendance of 450 had bought the June total to 967 attendees for the98 activities and
yielded $2,106.01 in revenue. She reported the year to date totals were now at 10,624
attendees with income of$25,583.14. The Farmhand volunteer hours were 66 hours for
crops plus livestock care and other maintenance and a total of 186 volunteer hours. Staff
reported the Dairy Days event great and volunteers had stepped up to handle the 450
attendees. Curtis Ratliff noted the "goat milking"was as popular as the hand-cranked ice
cream.
Staff reported the proposed use policies for the Farm had gone before City Council and had
been tabled for further Council discussion regarding the hours the Farm should be open.
The sheep at the Farre were doing great. Curtis said the Gulf Coast breed was listed as
endangered on The Livestock Conservancy's list.
Jim Lauderdale reported on attending the Association for Living History, Farm and
Agricultural Museum's Conference (ALHFAM) in Calgary, Canada. He shared the
conference schedule of classes, programs and events offering more information for those
who would like to use his notes from the sessions. The event featured good exhibits to be
applied at Nash Farm; all in all the conference was very educational.
Jim announced the next ALHFAM conference would be regional in Tahlequah, Oklahoma
on October 9— 11, 2014. This conference could be driven to, and as the Grapevine Heritage
Foundation (GHF) is a member of AHLFAM, discounts would be available for board
members who would like to attend. Please mark your calendars for January 23 —25, 2015
as ALHFAM will hold a conference in Dallas. Curtis said this date was listed in Melva's GHF
newsletter article; he encouraged all board members to attend the Dallas conference for at
least one day if not all three days.
Janet Perkins gave the Membership Committee report. She asked all to check the inactive
list for friends and acquaintances to be contacted for renewal. Pat Stinson asked for only
one active and inactive list at the next meeting to be shared by the board members. Frances
Jensen reported she was still working with staff on the transmittal of the email newsletter.
V. NEW BUSINESS
Chairman Ratliff announced the three person ad hoc committee to review the input from the
Foundation's Strategic Planning Sessions is now in place, saying "if you are not moving
forward, you are standing still". He called on P.W. McCallum for an update on locating a
consultant to work with the ad hoc committee. P.W. said he was working with a Fort Worth
company, SCORE, who have retired CEO's and business owners consult with small
businesses. The SCORE group has approximately 60 people they can call on. P.W. said
he had a very good meeting with Jim Lewis; Mr. Lewis also recommended two additional
individuals who had non-profit experience. The Summerlee Foundation wanted to do a six
month study, perhaps more than we need.

VI. DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS
Grapevine Historical Society Liaison Report-Joe Ann Standlee, President
Carolyn Ernst reported for Joe Ann Standlee. She said the July 28 meeting was fabulous
with the retiring Fire Chief Steve Bass and previous chief, Bill Powers, giving the history of
Grapevine's Fire Department. Carolyn said the Society is very busy deep cleaning with over
1900 items accessioned; and they had appreciated the use of the American Locker Building.
She was excited with moving forward as the Museum Arts group now has two meetings per
week and they are anxious to move to the Grapevine Ice Company museum building.
The Historical Society has two new acquisitions, a lantern from the rear of a caboose, and
a 16" x 24" poster dated March 1931 with the proclamation "President of the U.S.A. Bank
Closing Day", they will make a copy to display.
Grapevine Convention &Visitors Bureau Liaison Report-Paul W. McCallum
P.W. McCallum announced there were two Sister City groups in town, a group of four West
Lothian students for a culinary program and 37 people from Krems with a 30 piece
orchestra. The Krems orchestra will give six performances with three in Grapevine, two in
Fort Worth and one in Dallas; they are being hosted by 17 families.
Staff will be setting up the Smithsonian exhibit, Evolving Universe, to display through
September. This is the time of year for trade shows, faro groups and meeting planners.
Preparation is in process for GrapeFest and Christmas Capital of Texas with good pre-sales
online for both; the Texas Tenors performances have sold 800 tickets.
P.W. announced a donation for the Texas Wine Museum of an actual Grapevine moonshine
still, valuable as it has the revenuers axe cuts in it; he will interview the donor, Joe Wright, to
find the farm and history of the still.
