Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:30 PM on October 7, 2014 at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center. The following members were present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager Kay Blanding Charles Burns Carey Miller Eileen Hinson, Senior Center Supervisor Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison Dr. Alexander Graham Maryann Waddell, GRACE Those not present: Pam Price Paul Ernst Joetta King, Housing Authority 2. Consideration of minutes for August 5, 2014 meeting Approved 3. Citizen Requests Kay Blanding- There is an Alzheimer's Walk this Saturday October 11 at Meadowmere Park. Could there be an update for the participants at the center about the new building with a question/answer section? In Flower Mound, there was a flyer about seniors helping seniors with pet sitting while one is out of town. 4. New Business a. Duff O'Dell- City Council -Very excited and waiting for the new CAC center. -November 8 Grapevine is having a Veterans Parade on Main Street at loam. -Saturday November 15 is the grand opening of the Historical Museum. 1 -Suggested to SAC to see if the paramedics would come talk to the participants about strokes and what to look for. b. Maryann Waddell-GRACE -Friends and Family program: -Total clients: August-119; September-121 -Total commodities delivered: August-94; September-96 -Volunteer hours: August-75; September-65.5 and still adding more -New Clients: August-4; September-2 -New Matches (senior with volunteer): August-3; September-1 -Total matched so far about 20 -New volunteers: August-2; September-6 -Working on Christmas with the Friends and Family clients and Grapevine Women's Division. -Had a booth at Empowering Seniors October 3, 2014 and was a huge hit. c. Trent Kelley-SAC -Eileen Hinson is the new Senior Center Supervisor -New employee Carlos Flores who is bilingual. -Construction of the new CAC is still on schedule currently March-June. -Will meet with city council about the marketing plan soon. -Still looking into obtaining more handicap spots at the center,though there is specific requirements that need to be met. Eileen Hinson-SAC -Northeast Jamboree was at the NRH center and SAC took 60 people. About 350 people attended with various activities, games and food. -Took 25 seniors to Empowering Seniors and David Stuckey helped at the Senior booth. -Have 3 trips going to the Texas State Fair on Thursdays this month. -Will have a Halloween party on Friday, October 31; will be taking participants to Chick-fil-A to play bingo. The center will have a costume contest and games going on. -Dallas Museum of Art trip Friday, October 17. -Kimball Art Museum Tuesday, November 4. -White's Chapel Hymn Sing Thursday,November 6. -Will have a children's choir from Uganda at the center on Thursday, November 13. -Hosting a Veteran's Day lunch Tuesday, November 11. -Starting to collect items for soldiers overseas. d. Dick Guckel -Computer classes started at the SAC Monday, October 6 -Asked how the SAC attendance has been lately. Answer from Eileen was there are more new participant signups, also depends on the trips and activities going on at the center. 2 e. Tena Burrell -Asked about Open Enrollment, Eileen answered that United Way is providing the help to the participants. -Mentioned about the emergency awareness alert kit and obtaining them for the participants. 6.
