Secretary Pat Stinson reported on the Membership Development Committee having sent
letters out for renewals and seeking donations. The letters also included an explanation as
the membership due dates have returned to using each individual's membership
anniversary as their renewal date.
Don Vaughn reported on the restoration of the Soil Conservation Office. The exterior has
been painted a dark brown to blend in with the trees, the fire retardant shingles are in place,
the original windows have been repaired with only two having to be replaced. The HVAC
and insulation are installed. They are ready to paint the interior walls, and repair and
refinish the floors. The restoration was on schedule and looked great.
Jim Lauderdale updated on the Nash Farm program's totals for the first quarter of the year.
There were 16 programs, 2,348 visitors, $8,482 in donations and 985 volunteer hours.
David Klempin reported on the ongoing Nash Farm lawsuit.
Jim told all of the success of the Butchering & Curing Workshop registering 92 attendees
yielding $1,400 in revenue with the help of 189 volunteer hours. Attendees came from as
far as Coleman, OK and Lufkin, they all complimented the Nash Farm as a great
educational resource. Balla Wright told all of the interest generated by Sallie Andrews'
sister and brother-in-law's sausage grinding.
There was no formal action taken.

work on their new museum location in the Grapevine Ice House. The Historical Society has
been working on the interior installation plan for the new museum; they have begun cleaning
and refurbishing items for the new building in the museum district. She invited all to attend
the Grapevine Historical Society's January 28 meeting with a special program featuring
Cece Box speaking on the History of Banking in Grapevine.
Grapevine Convention &Visitors Bureau Liaison Report-Paul W. McCallum
P.W. McCallum reported the 2012 Christmas Capital of Texas season's early launch prior to
Thanksgiving was a success. The November sales tax receipts were up 23 percent; the
Gaylord Texan's ICE program sales were up $30,000 over last year's sales; the Mills and
Merlin also showed increasing numbers; and the Palace Arts Center Christmas movie,
It's A Wonderful Life, had sold out capacity.
The CVB's Communications Manager, Leigh Lyons, had great publication stories featuring
the Christmas Capital of Texas in Oklahoma, San Antonio, Waco and Abilene; and more
coverage on many of the Good Morning shows in several cities with journalists and on-air
personalities generating interest in Grapevine's Christmas Capital of Texas. This year efforts
concentrated on television coverage, "still the most watched screen in America." Again,
Grapevine's citizens loved to bring family and friends to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.
The GVRR will be closed in January for maintenance and recertification; train runs will
resume February 23.
The Convention &Visitors Bureau's website redesign to bring more features is in progress
and a couple of months out to completion. With Northgate highway construction scheduled
for completion in July, Grapevine is set to launch with the program of Life After the
Connector. In early May, programs will be rolled out over a 75 mile radius to let people know
the bad traffic reports are over, creating the branding "We Are Back!." There will be an
intense effort to let all know the highway construction is over with I Survived the Connector
slogans similar to I (heart) New York or Virginia Is for Lovers to get the good information out.
City Council approved the new Grapevine Craft Brewery to be located on Jean
Street. They are wholesalers to restaurants, producing 1,000 barrels per year. This brewery
will bring another level of interest to Grapevine for those who savor craft beers. City Council
has also approved a Starbucks Coffee and two 7-Eleven stores.
P.W. invited all to join the celebration of George Kako's retirement on Friday. He praised
George for his many years as a loyal servant to Grapevine's citizens.
Chairman Ratliff called for any further comments. Pat Stinson complimented the Christmas
Capital of Texas for having the most delightful play area at the train; Sue Franks said to walk
the streets with all the shops was wonderful; Don Vaughn agreed and gave a shout out for
how the Grapevine Vintage Railroad train is handled, calling it"a heluva of a project." City
Council Liaison Mike Lease thanked the Convention &Visitors Bureau for the events that
have kept Grapevine prosperous during the difficult economic and road construction time.
Chairman Ratliff reminded all to sign up for the First Friday Films to promote membership in
the Foundation.
