SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF DELL LAPTOPS AND
DESKTOPS
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the approval for the purchase of replacement
laptops and desktops from Dell Marketing for the IT Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (IT department) for an amount
not to exceed $107,334.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is to replace approximately 40 laptops and 25 desktop
computers that must be upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
These devices have outdated hardware that cannot support Windows 11,
so the equipment itself must be replaced in order to complete the
operating system upgrade. Windows 10 is no longer supported, making
this update necessary for security and compliance.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) as
allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas
Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative, and a contract was awarded to Dell
Marketing LP. The IT Department and Purchasing staff reviewed the
contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing
for meeting the needs of the City.
