Harlan Jewett agreed to come back on the board to replace Dr. Stephanie Whetsell who resigned. Jennifer and Linda gave an update on the transportation program they have been working on for seniors and handicapped people. There are still details that need to be resolved. Debra Wells talked about the Hud housing and what is being done to improve it. Capital funding has been promised for each of 5 years. It is going to be used to update the electric probably starting in January 2001. A lot of repairs have been made to the buildings and old water heaters and appliances have been replaced where needed. There are 2 different programs: Hud and Section 8. There are over 100 people on the waiting list for each program. Grapevine residents have preference over those from outside the City to obtain housing. The elderly, disabled and veterans have top preference among Grapevine residents. There are various levels of rating. They discussed using the current Middle school when it is vacated to convert it into housing. However, there are others interested in the building. Trisha Wood said that Grace has a little transitional housing for people who are temporarily in need due to employment, fire etc. Jan,the woman who is going to build the housing on Glade Rd.will be asked to speak at one of our meetings. Irvin brought up the few mailboxes located in the City of Grapevine. The Post Office will have to be called to fmd out their policy for placing boxes. Harlan suggested we have the Postmaster come to speak in January. It was also suggested that we have someone from the Police Dept. come to discuss how the seniors could help them. Cr' It was discussed that we have a weekly column in the Grapevine Sun and/or The Hometown Star telling what is available for seniors and anything of interest or help for seniors. Linda explained the cell phone program which she started at the Senior Center. She had asked people who had cell phones that they no longer used but were still good,be donated to the center. They would then be given to seniors who wanted one to be used for emergency calls to 911 which needs no activation.
