GRAPEVINE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY BOARD
Cer February 1, 2002
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met on February 1, 2002 at 2 P.M. at the
Grapevine Senior Activities Center.
The following members were present:
Dr. Edith Pewitt—Chair Dorothy Kritz
Miriam Bahner - Secretary Trisha Wood
Vivienne Douglas
Others present:
Linda Gregory
Dr. Stephanie Whetsell
Edith introduced and welcomed everyone to the meeting.
The minutes of the previous meeting were considered and approved.
Under old business, we continued with the planning of the Senior Fair for 2002.
Linda said that Clydene had asked for July 13th but hadn't heard back from her as to
whether we can get that date to use the Lancaster Theater.
Edith is going to a meeting with Keeping Grapevine Beautiful on February 7th and will
look into the possibility of having them give a presentation at the Senior Fair.
Organizations giving presentations could give an overview of what their organizations
are doing to help seniors.
Organizations to be contacted for possible presentations are as follows:
Senior Movers
Power Point presentation for the Senior Center
Parks and Recreation Dept. with Keeping Grapevine Beautiful and the Botanical
Gardens giving presentations. It was suggested that seniors serve as docents to
give tours of the Botanical Gardens and watch for vandals as there has been
vandalism several times at the Gardens.
The Heritage Foundation would be represented by Nash Farms, which will soon
be ready for tours and the Palace Theater presenting the Kids Who Care Program
The Runway Theater will be contacted to put on a short comedy as part of the
entertainment.
It was suggested that we have a flyer listing the names and telephone numbers of the
various organizations who use volunteers and give them out to everyone that registers at
the fair. This way they can take it home and have time to read and decide if they want to
be a volunteer.
It was also suggested that we alternate the presentations and the entertainment.
Edith is going to contact the various groups to get commitments to take part in the fair.
Charlie's and The Venue will be contacted for gift certificates and the Senior Center
could give some ceramics and Grace has offered some prizes. These things would all be
given as door prizes.
At the next meeting we must decide on the date and time and also the food. It was
suggested that we have picnic type food such as pigs in a blanket, trail mix and a drink.
The new Newsletter was distributed and discussed. Linda said that different
organizations for seniors would be featured each month. The Senior Center developed
and produced the letter, which will be going out to the seniors.
Subjects for possible forums at the Senior Center were discussed such as Health
Insurance and Electric Deregulation. An organization is coming to the Center in
February to discuss pain management and hospice care.
The idea is to get seniors that don't come to the Center to come in to hear some of these
ter presentations and get to know what the Senior Center has to offer seniors.
The next meeting will be held on March 1, 2002 at 2 P.M. at the Grapevine Senior
Activities Center.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:12 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
