Started signups for flu shots Friday, October 26, and November 2. Times are 10 & 2
those days. GrapeAffair was helpful getting the word out.
Using 24 passenger buses for State Fair trips starting this Thursday and subsequent two
Thursdays, leaving 9:30 a.m. —4 p.m. approximate time back to Center.
The fact that Computer class registrations are low came up and there was discussion
around why. Speculations included possibility of vacations still going on. Some classes
were cancelled for lack of interest.
Drivers Ed led by Paul discussed; Pam said she hears only good things about Paul's
teaching. Next classes are 26 & 27 of November.
Dick asked if Mind Fit was discussed last time. Kaye said no because the initial group of
testers has not completed the program.
General discussion about:
thr • Helping families' in need included prices going up everywhere, e.g. milk!
• Seniors really enjoying the barbeque grill the Senior Advisory Council gave
Center.
• Friends of Grapevine Senior Activity Center (FOGSAC) gave many more things
to seniors which are really appreciated.
• Pam says she introduces everyone in her computer classes to services at Center
including ones FOGSAC does.
Chris talked about Mary Jo from his office getting FEMA money for volunteers' hours for
cleanup.
• Last Saturday was pickup day, 631 people on Saturday, 1,000+; large groups like
Sabre, Verizon, and Levi Straus came out as well as citizens to clean up parks,
pavilions. FEMA will reimburse $x amount per volunteer hours. People are
excited about helping. Mary Jo went to schools; Grapevine Middle School had
60 art students and their teachers out there too. Keep Grapevine Beautiful and
Adventure Team continue to lead efforts. There will be more days.
• Dorothy said that at the pickup lunch, the Middle School students said they
wanted to do something for the Seniors. They'll wash cars at the Center on
certain days set up as one example, wash windows or read—lots of things.
• Grapevine Middle School got award for most volunteer hours for the day.
• Pam commended Chris for the efforts to get corporate volunteers.
• Discussion around how great Grapevine's volunteerism is, city's services e.g.
recycling.

Lunch attendance has gone up. Dorothy does good job of welcoming new people and
making everyone feel comfortable.
Hazel Readicker who was a long time member of the SAC and enjoyed playing pinochle
and knitting baby items for the hospitals, recently passed on. She was active until she
started losing her eyesight. But she did not let this get her down, she came to the SAC
almost every day to eat lunch and remind everyone to eat their tomatoes!! Hazel was a
retired RN and was a big advocate for eating healthy...that's why she lived to be 101
years old she would say! After lunch she would sit out in the lobby and tell stories until it
was time to go home. And she had tons of interesting stories and would talk to anyone.
Hazel was a wonderful person and we miss her very much.
