Business Development Manager and Celia Bryant, Marketing Representative

program. Services provided by Home Instead include (1) Personal Care
service, (2) Companionship service, and (3) Home Helper service (that comes
into clean up the home).

Le
Home Instead is a non-medical company which serves as a family member.
There are price ratings for services such as long term care or home health
care. The office provides a 24/7 answering service with "live" coverage — no
recordings, making it easier to get this assistance.
Brochures from Home Instead were handed out to the members of the Board
and they were given website that the Board could use for future reference and
explanations:
(1) www.homeinstead.com
(2) www.beasantatoasenior.com
They have a Santa to a Senior program which began in mid-July. There is an
opportunity for community residents to participate. They are in the process of
recruiting volunteers and commented that students can volunteer to work with
this program. Names of seniors are collected and merchants are encouraged
to participate in the program.
Some of the volunteer opportunities include sponsoring a "wrapping party" in
December. The GSAC could have one here in this building in which the
volunteers would participate in their own wrapping party, make their own
deliveries, and provide their own supplies. Kaye Grayson said that she will get
back to the Board about this suggestion at a later date.
b. Housing Authority update — B.J. Martin
B.J. Martin reported that there are two waiting lists (1) 175 people are on the
wait list for the apartments and (2) 485 people are on the wait list for
vouchers. Bruce Walters asked if there is such a long wait list whether the
City has thought of expanding the numbers. This list amounts to a 2-3 year
wait. B.J. said no, this was not going to be considered. Another question was,
at what point are the people on the list qualified? The answer was that they
must come to the top of the wait list.
Reports of negative activity happening late at night around the Botanical
Gardens area have caused concern. A wrought iron fence, costing $9,685,
will be erected around the housing area to give added security. This fence will
be powder coated requiring no maintenance.
June 6 there was a covered dish picnic at Starr Place (located at Starr and
Wall Streets) with 20 people attending.
c. GRACE update— Pat Frosch
No report was presented.
d. Senior Activities Center update
Kaye Grayson reported that in September there would be a Touring Lunch for
those in the Center. On the itinerary would be various businesses and
C, facilities who would tell about the programs they offer to Seniors. This activity

will be in the form of a Progressive Lunch. The new living facility in Southlake
will be included in this tour.
Computer Classes will be held in August and September. The registration
date for these classes was Monday, August 4.
The Silver Sneakers Class is taught by Eilene Hinson, the Assistant Director
at the GSAC. At the Open House, 40 signed up to participate in the program.
This is the largest group to have signed up for the class which meets twice a
week — Mon/Wed at 1:00 PM. Chairs are used by the participants. This class
is offered free-of-charge to Seniors. The website for the Silver Sneakers is
www.silversneakers.com. There are facilities in local areas such as Coppell,
North Richland Hills, and Bedford as well as at many exercise sites. Those
who are registered for the program may attend other facilities all over the
United States. Members receive a membership card. The program at GSAC
is successful because of the volunteers who support the program.
The next dance at the Center is scheduled for Saturday, August 9; the
Borderline Band will play.
Water Aerobics has been a successful program this summer with 60 people
signed up on the role sheet. Usually there were 28-40 people participating at
each session. The program will discontinue at the end of August. This year an
(br addition of a portable step has been useful in helping participants get in and
out of the pool. It has been appreciated by those who were involved with the
water aerobics class.
6. To Do
