Joetta King reported that approximately 45 residents and guests attended the
Christmas party held at the Mitchell House on December 12. Rick Many and the
First United Methodist String Band entertained.
Approximately 20 residents attend the "Be Our Guest" free meal and meet your
neighbors gathering held at First United Methodist Church on January 17 at 6:00
PM. This event is held on the third Tuesday of each month and residents within a
mile of the church are encouraged to attend. The meal was served family style on
tables with table cloths and nice china dishes. This once-a-month meal was
attended by 71 people. The GSAC advertised the dinner in their newsletter and at
the center. This program is sponsored by the Church's Ministry Mile Mission, with
the goal of connecting people within the Hispanic community as well as the Anglo
community.
Twenty-four trees were planted to improve the appearance of the landscape at the
housing units located at Starnes and Brewer in January.
There are currently two vacancies (a zero-bedroom efficiency unit and a one-
bedroom unit) available with five Grapevine residents on the zero-bedroom waiting
(iv list and 33 on the one-bedroom waiting list. In regard to the Section 8 vouchers,
there are 88 Grapevine residents on the waiting list. About 400 non-residents are on
the waiting list for vouchers. The opening for filing applications for the waiting list is
scheduled for the third week in June. Two residents recently died (Jane Blackmon
and Gladys Ridenour). Joetta explained the procedure in a brief summary clarifying
that the Housing Authority's manual is very detailed. Preference is made to
Grapevine residents and then non-residents who work in Grapevine. Income limits

and Dance again this year. The event is for any senior aged 55 and over that lives
in the community; there will be no charge. The event will take place at the Ranch of
Lonesome Dove on February 12 from 5:30-7:30PM. Transportation will be provided
from the SAC at 5:00PM. There are 130 seniors signed up for the event with a

d. Roy Stewart asked to update the Board on the City's Facilities meeting regarding
the renovations and maintenance needs of the SAC. This is the first renovation
made to the center since 2000. All the work will be contained inside the building;
none on the outside at this time. The paint was selected to be used on the doors
and wood trim. All the existing rubber base molding will be replaced with one
uniform color. The colors will match the tile; the doors and door frames will be
painted maroon and the walls will remain a basic brown that coordinates with the
existing floor tiles. Hard surface countertops in the bathroom and kitchen island will
be replaced. Molded sinks will be installed. Roy commented that a chair rail might
help protect the walls as they get scarred by equipment, walkers, wheelchairs, and
other objects. The work should start soon as it has been placed within the City's
2009 budget. With these improvements, the goal is to change from wallpapered
walls to textured and painted walls.
e. Board Chairman Dick Guckel commented that the concern he voiced last month
about the fact that the SAC was not very visible on the City's website has been
addressed by the City and that the results are very positive.
