1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:42 PM on June 7,
2011 at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center.
The following members were present:

4. Citizen Requests
(, Cookout for Seniors Thursday June 9, 2011 at Vineyards 10:30am to 1pm,
put on by the Senior Advisory Council
5. New Business
a. Tena Burrell- reported that Senior Task Force is having an
Empowering Seniors 2011 Health and Lifestyle EXPO on Friday
October 7, 2011 at the FBCE Campus West, 209 N. Industrial,
Bedford, TX
b. Joetta King- Housing Authority
-reported on the Housing Authority that there is one vacancy: it is a
zero bedroom unit. There are two people on the waiting list for a zero
bedroom unit.
-Some residents have found the no smoking policy restricting, but the
majority have been accepting of this change.
-They are working on a plan to make some improvements in the
landscaping with the focus being on removing unsightly, unhealthy
(pr shrubs and on planting trees. Many trees on the property are a short-
lived variety, and trees that have a longer life span will be planted in
the fall or early winter.
c. Francia Arrigan- GRACE
-introduced new member to GRACE Sherry McKellar, been in client
services, volunteers, fundraising, development and Senior Program.
-Sherry reported that the Friends and Family volunteer program is
growing and they are helping Seniors through a one on one relationship
by calling, visiting, talking to, taking on trips. We have 100 Seniors and
25 volunteers signed up. Looking for more volunteers, for they want
"quality" for the Seniors.
-Francia reported that 82 seniors were served via monthly food
distribution
152 services were provided to seniors most requested services are:
utility, gasoline, clothing, home visits, medical and food.
-GRACE services included for month of May:
395 were assisted
(4, 78 received clothing
201 food
24 rent assistance
19 utilities
10 Energy aid
16 transportation
-2327 services with an approximately cost of $32,237
-more services are being requested; rent, utilities, food, financial and
gasoline
-Summer, Winter, before and after school are peak times for
requests for services
-Senior Citizens have requested utility assistance due to no financial
aid anymore
-GRACE does keep records and refer them out to different
Churches
-Clinic:
22 clinics: family practice, chiropractic, podiatry, well-women,
diabetes classes
140 patients were assisted
-GRACE will be open the following Saturdays for pantry, food and
fir clothing
June 11th and 25th 9:30am-12:30pm
July 16th and 25th 9:30am-12:30pm
August 13th and 27th 9:30am-12:30pm
-TXU Grant: provided GRACE with AC units, ceiling fans and box fans
to give out to patrons.
d. Tena Burrell- Update
-Vial of Life, talked to Seniors at SAC. Informed them about filling
out the forms with the medication, doctor and contact information for
the EMT
e. Trent Kelley-SAC
-Cookout Thursday June 9th at Vineyards
-Seniors going on a trip to the Mesquite Rodeo on Saturday June 11th
-Filled the positions for Lead Recreation Specialist and Recreation
Specialist
-Moving forward with more programs as the SAC is trying to
outreach to more Seniors, and providing more services.
(1. -Promoting that the SAC provides transportation to the Grapevine
residents to and from the SAC, also to promote the Senior Movers
program to help provide transportation for appointments.
-Water aerobics started this month and will continue through
August every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am at dove pool
-Looking to contract instructors for specific classes we will offer at
the center
-Dinner club will be June 25th at Jack's Porch
-Will be easing into dances for SAC, location will be in Grapevine
-Joetta mentioned trying to reach out to mostly Grapevine
Residents
-Tena mentioned talking to the Women's Division of grapevine,
since they have put on various dances/events in past with great
turnouts
-Sherry mentioned possibly providing transportation if needed
f. Paul Ernst- Driving
-Course in May went well
C, -will have another course in July
-lasts for four hours, is good for three years, and pushing for the
older age group but any is welcome if the insurance approves
g. Pam Price- Computer
-Registration starts August 1, 2011
h. Trent Kelley- SAC Future (Requested by Roy Stewart)
-Expansion Recommendation is a 10 year Master Plan
-Would like to combine the CAC and SAC to make a multi Generation
Center
-There would be an area for the Seniors and they would also have the
use of the other amenities the CAC provides
-Looking to add an indoor aquatics area: water aerobics could be held
year round, and an assisted and resistance walking pool.
-Wanting to involve the younger kids with the Seniors since both age
groups would be at the center during same times.
-Weight room equipment to be Senior friendly
6. The meeting adjourned at 4:35 pm
