1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:35 PM on August 2, 2011 at
the Grapevine Senior Activities Center.
The following members were present:
Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson
Pam Price
Francia Arrigan, Ex-offico, GRACE
Dorothy Kritz,Ex-offico, Grapevine Senior Activities Center
Kay Blanding,new member to the board
Others present:
Trent Kelley, Senior Activities Center Supervisor
Roy Stewart, City Council Liaison
Those not present:
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Carey Miller
Joetta King,Ex-offico, Housing Authority
2. Welcome Guests
Megan Atkins, Senior Activities Center Recreation Specialist
3. Consideration of minutes for June 7, 2011 meeting
The minutes were approved as read.
4. Citizen Requests-Dorothy Kritz
Senior Center recently had new members sign up and were stating that the Center is
not friendly, as in the other centers. Suggestions were made such as moving people to
different tables,making announcements to introduce the people and also having staff
help introduce new members to other seniors.
5. New Business
a.Trent Kelley-Senior Activities Center
-George Mead a longtime member of the Center passed away and funeral was
Wednesday August 3, 2011.

-New hire for the Lead Recreation Specialist position David will start August
8, 2011. He will be helping with programs, trips, and special events
-Sandra is set to come back on August 8 after being out with knee surgery; she
will focus on arts and crafts for the center
-Senior Movers volunteer driver numbers are down, looking for more
volunteer drivers for the seniors who need transportation to and from
appointments
-Senior Jamboree is being held September 30 at Haltom City. Grapevine will
be doing the parachute event, along with providing the star tent
-Taking seniors to the Ms Senior Texas Pageant, held on August 27 at the
Southfork Hotel in Plano
-Taking a trip to the Genghis Khan Exhibition on September 9, will eat at
Golden Corral afterwards.
-Had computer registration on Monday August 1. Had 45 people sign up with
some slots open. Contact Ken Anderson for more information.
b.Francia Arrigan-GRACE
-Very busy during summer with the heat, many people coming to ask for help
with electric bills
-Grant from TXU for AC units and fans:
-many calls from all over metroplex
-no money received yet from TXU
-have given out over 700 fans and still have about 150 fans left
-125 people on priority list for AC units
-priority list is for seniors over 55 or disabled
-Families are allowed up to $500 from GRACE to pay for rent or utilities one
time per year
-Since extreme conditions TXU will help out two times a year with bills,
though the people must go online to request for help before the service is
cancelled
-FAITH which is a goal they are trying to obtain: is to help with the case
management with families in discussing decision making and financial
planning in a one on one with GRACE
-GRACE summer camp has 45 kids ages 6 to 12 years old, from 9am-4:30
pm. They have arts and crafts, lunch provided, fitness programs, games, safety
talks, fire prevention, and educational activities
-Senior Programming: about 5 to 6 seniors out of the 100 they service have
requested for the AC units.
-Many vacancies at GRACE and are trying to fill
c.Tena Burrell-Empowering Seniors
-Empowering Seniors 2011 Health Expo to be held on Friday October 7, 2011
-Senior Fest was a big hit and about 290 people showed up, will come to
Senior Center next year to have seniors get first chance to sign up so they will
not miss sign ups.
