1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:35 PM on
October 4, 2011 at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center.
The following members were present:
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Carey Miller
Joetta King, Ex-offico, Housing Authority
Paul Ernst
Dorothy Kritz, Ex-offico, Grapevine Senior Activities Center
Kay Blanding

In charge of Special Events, Programs Coordinator, and Parties at the
SAC
3. Consideration of minutes for August 3, 2011 meeting
Asked to add Paul Ernst to the not present list.

4. Citizen Requests-Kay Blanding
-Was asking if Sandra's new Arts and Crafts classes have teachers.
(Trent Kelley)- There will be a combination of teachers for the
different classes, as Sandra will be teaching certain classes and then
there will be a teacher for other classes. SAC is offering: leather
working, fly fishing, water color, writing, card making, quilting, and
jewelry making classes.
Have promoted these classes in the newsletter, playbook and also on the
water bills.
(Roy Stewart)- Asked if there would be any scrapbooking classes.
(Trent)- Not at this time, we are doing card making right now.
(Vicki)- Mentioned to send fliers to GRACE with all the classes and
activities happening at the SAC.
5. New Business
a. Carey Miller
-Empowering Seniors Expo is Friday October 7th He will be there
at a booth representing Senior Causes for Grapevine
(Roy)-Grapevine Rotary will be hosting a Canned Food Collection at
Expo
b. Joetta King-Housing Authority
-As of October 1, there will not be any vacancies.
GHA properties were recently inspected by HUD and received an
86 rating out of 100. Points were deducted due to some erosion
around sidewalks, rust stain on foundation slab, blocked emergency
button/switches (not required to be in the units) and warped
boards on the fence located on Scribner.
The policies for the GHA were reviewed extensively by the
Board of Commissioners during September and changes were
approved.
-There are units needing screening from the sun, therefore the
placement of shade from upcoming budgets with the use of trees
are going to be placed accordingly
c. Vicki Yarnell-GRACE
- The Friends and Family has 9 trainees, they are there to help
check up on seniors.
- 122 seniors on the Friends and Family list and the numbers are
increasing. There are 25 active friends at this time.
- GRACE is having 6 to 7 new clients a day.
d. Trent Kelley-SAC
-State Fair trips on Thursdays October 6, 13, and 20th
- Friday October 7th bringing seniors to Empowering Seniors Expo
-October 14th will be providing Flu shots at Center, Pneumonia
Shots will be $65
-Choctaw Casino trip will be Thursday October 27th
Busses will be provided, up to 100 people, seniors will receive $5
in meal and $10 in card play.
-SAC Advisory council will be hosting a cookout at Center on Friday
October 215t
(David)-SAC will have an Open House on Friday November 4th from 2-
5pm. There will be music, dancing, entertainment, arts and crafts,
and appetizers. Transportation will be provided as there will be an
extra route home after the Open House at 5pm.

-October 2001 classes have 56 people signed up. August 2011
classes had 63 people registered
-Tax Aide for seniors at the SAC on Wednesdays in February,
March and April. Looking for volunteers to help with taxes
-Dick will be at the Colleyville Fair representing Tax Aide and
looking for volunteers.
-18 years providing aid with the help of IRS and AARP
f. Roy Stewart
-Dancing Rivers Senior Living will be having an Open House on
Thursday October 7th from 4-7pm
Is an assisted living facility with a memory center that has 89
beds.
- Asked about the Christmas Party for the SAC- where, city
budget and sponsorships (Trent)- Cowboys Golf Club
(ior - Grapefest was very successful had about 243,00 people
- Grace Gayla is at the Irving Convention Center October 15th
g. Paul Ernst-Drivers Safety
- All November classes will be free for all Veterans and their
spouses
- Will have 3 classes: Nov 3rd at Southlake (12-4pm), Nov 8th at
Bedford (6-10pm), and Nov 15th at Grapevine (1-5pm)
6. The meeting adjourned at 4:10 pm
