Chairman A. J. Harper called the meeting to order.
City Secretary, Shirley Armstrong gave the oath of office to
new member, James Buckner.
The next order of business was for the Board of Zoning Adjust-
ments to consider BZA 77-1 as submitted by Pizza Inn. The City
Secretary introduced Mr. Gene Long, Pizza Inn representative
and applicant. Mr. Long explained that he was requesting a
variance in the zoning ordinance which required that a commer-
cial sign be fifteen feet from the property line. He further
stated that the center base of the proposed sign would be eight
feet from the property line with the upper edge being 21911
from the property line.
There was a lengthy discussion regarding the size of the sign
and the exact proposed location. Member James Buckner stated
that neighboring establishments had been allowed to place their
signs closer to the property line and if the Pizza Inn applica-
tion was denied, their sign would not be in conformity with
others along the highway.
Mr. Long advised that because of the elevation of the property
the sign would need to be farther north, otherwise it would be
too tall to confirm with heighth requirements.
Member Jesse Woods stated that in view of the location of ad-
jacent signs he would make a motion to grant the application.
The motion was seconded by James Buckner and prevailed by the
following vote:
Ayes: Harper, Woods, Spencer and Buckner.
Nays: None
Absent: Conrad Heede
The next order of business was consideration of the minutes of
January 5, 1977. Member Jesse Woods made a motion to approve
the minutes as published. The motion was seconded by Jerry
Spencer and prevailed by the following vote:
