1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:30 pm on October 3, 2017 at
The REC of Grapevine.
The following members were present:
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager
Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor
Kay Blanding
Isabelle Boyd
Pam Price

3. Consideration of minutes for August 1, 2017 meeting
Approved

Isabelle Boyd — Touring Lunch that was Saturday, September 30 was wonderful.
Thank you for the parking signs for the Active Adults.
(Trent Kelley) Shuttle service with a limo style golf cart will help with assistance in
the parking lot.
Kay Blanding — Alzheimer's Walk is Saturday, October 14 and will have a group
through The REC.
5. New Business
a. Duff O'Dell - City Council Member Liaison
-National Night Out this evening, Council will be going around in the police
bus.
-Plans for the new hotel and depot are coming along, the parking garage will
be the first built, looking at December of 2018. The trains should start by the
first half of next year.
-Public Safety Building is now open.
-Animal shelter and new fire stations will be on the bond election in
November as well as the golf course.
-Grapefest was very successful.
-Christmas decorations will be put up soon.
-The Outreach is a great program with classes and after school care.
b. Grapevine Housing Authority- Linda Troeger
- Terry Rhodes -Cantu had a prior commitment.
-Housing Authority conference in Dallas went real well.
-Looking for an Executive Director.
-Interim is Jane Everett.
c. Maryann Waddell — GRACE
-Friends and Family program:
-Total clients: August 114 / September 111
-Total commodities delivered: August 74 / September 73
-Volunteer hours: August 36.5 / September (not totaled)
-Total Matches: August 19 / September 20
-New Clients: August 1 / September 0
-New Commodities Clients: August 1 / September 0
-New Matches (senior with volunteer): August 0 / September 2
-New Volunteers: August 1 / September 2
-First Financial Bank volunteers will partner with GRACE on Columbus
Day, 10/6/2017, to serve the seniors at Grapevine Housing. They will
assist with yard work, have games and craft activities on hand. The group
will offer a BBQ lunch that they make and serve. Great fun is had by all.
-GRACE will have a table set up for the 9' Annual Empowering Seniors
event on Friday, October 6.
-The Grapevine Chamber Women's Division has begun their Christmas
Spirit Program. This program assures each GRACE Friends and Family
senior receive Christmas gifts. In October they begin their home visits to
collect the seniors' Christmas wishes.
-14' annual GRACE Gala on October 14, 2017 at DFW Hyatt.
-Summer program — Feed the Kids went well.

d. Carey Miller
- 9`t' Annual Empowering Seniors Expo is Friday, October 6. It is
growing with 2,500 plus seniors in attendance.
e. Trent Kelley- Recreation Facilities Manager
- Shuttle service with a limo style golf cart will be sponsored by Mike
Davis for The REC parking lot.
-Stairwell construction going on and hopefully done by December.
-Butterfly sculpture dedication will be October 14.
-Fitness court will be built out by the turf field.
-Trash and Treasure is Saturday, October 7 at Meadowmere Park.
-Vineyard Campgrounds had a good year, was over 80 percent occupancy
for the year.
-Grapeyard will be October 27 and 28 with over 1,700 tickets already sold.
-ShipwRECed at REC in the pool with escape rooms.
-Grapevine will host the Park Maintenance Rodeo at Oak Grove
Wednesday, October 11.
-Veterans Parade next month on Saturday, November 11.
e. Eileen Hinson- The REC/Active Adults
-Generations program with Big Brothers Big Sisters is going well. There
are 9 students and 14 volunteers to mentor the students.
-State Fair trips on the first 3 Thursdays of October.
-Medicare Open Enrollment along with meet and greet with different
insurance agencies scheduled in October.
-Matter of Balance going on with Baylor teaching a 4 week class 2 times a
week.
-New lunch program with Metroport Meals on Wheels going real well.
-(Duff) mentioned WWII vet come to speak to the seniors.
-(Dick) talked about the different scams and equifax check.
6. The meeting adjourned at 4:34 pm.
